Bay Forrest left her flat, planning on surprising her best friend on her first day of work. Bay was, unfortunately, still sick, but she was feeling slightly better. She let her freshly clean and dried hair hang loose around her face, and she wore Muggle athletic shorts and a long sleeve shirt. Really unusual, but hey, that was Bay.
She sneezed as she landed in Diagon Alley, Apparating sick was discouraged, but she risked it anyways. She made her way across the street to Flourish and Blott's an excellent book shop. Bay walked in the door.
"Oh Darcy!" Her voice rang out from the door. She laughed quietly to herself and walked further into the shop.

“You better not give up your title, I’ll think you’re weak!” Mathius joked, grinning even bigger than before.
"I am not cutting my hair, though!" She gasped, still smiling like she had been all day so far. "That's too extreme." She shook her head. "How about this," she looked at him, extending her hand, like she was making a deal, "you cut your hair and I'll cut mine."
“Oh alriiight…” Mathius sighed, then, when Darcy extended her hand MAthius shook his head, “No way, I will not be cutting this! I just got it perfect.” He whined, patting his hair protectively before going back to his smiling self. Before he could say anything else a woman entered the store calling Darcy’s name.
Mathius turned to Darcy, his eyebrow raised, “Friend of yours?”

“You better not give up your title, I’ll think you’re weak!” Mathius joked, grinning even bigger than before.
She laughed hard. "I think I'll get used to seeing that grin." She chuckled, shaking her head and looking down with a blush. He was something else, that was for sure.
“Oh alriiight…” Mathius sighed, then, when Darcy extended her hand Mathius shook his head, “No way, I will not be cutting this! I just got it perfect.” He whined, patting his hair protectively before going back to his smiling self.
"How adorable. You and your hair." She winked, picking up a random piece of paper and throwing it at his nose. "I was teasing you!" Darcy hadn't even heard someone enter, but she sure did hear a familiar voice ring through the store. She turned sharply to the front again and saw Bay, a mischievous smile spreading across her lips.
"Oh, hello Bay!" She chirped, leaning over the front counter now, waving to her friend. "Why are you here?" She smiled. "Business?"
Mathius turned to Darcy, his eyebrow raised, “Friend of yours?”
Darcy nodded her head, chuckling. "Unfortunately." She whispered, flashing Mathius a sweet smile.

"Oh, hello Bay!" Darcy chirped, leaning over the front counter now, waving to her friend. "Why are you here? Business?"
Bay saw a man turn to Darcy, his eyebrow raised, “Friend of yours?”
Darcy nodded her head, chuckling. "Unfortunately." She whispered.
"Excuse me." Bay said with feigned hurt. "You wound me, my friend. I might have to change the locks to the flat." She threatened teasingly.
"And no, I'm not here on business. Look at me," She referred to her shorts and long sleeve shirt, "Do I honestly look like I'm dressed for business?" She laughed before turning a playful critical eye at Darcy. "Now you- you look like you could work at the Ministry. No, I just wanted to check up on my best friend and see how she was doing." She turned her gaze towards the man.
"But it looks as though you don't need me to check up you." She dramatically winked at Darcy.
Darcy was her best friend, ever since Hogwarts. Bay had been a Muggle Born Slytherin, and Darcy had been a Muggle Born Gryffindor. They had bonded and been friends ever since. They now shared a flat. And right now, Bay was enjoying making her friend feel awkward. Darcy had been there for her when her husband had been killed, and the least she could do was make sure Darcy dated the right sorts of guys.
Bay however, had no idea rather or not the guy was even married or not. She extended her hand toward the man.
"You must be her boss, Jensen." She smiled politely.

She laughed hard. "I think I'll get used to seeing that grin."
“You most definitely will Darcy dear.” Mathius laughed with a twinkle in his eyes. When she said that she was just teasing he groaned “That is some mean teasing Darcy.” He replied, feigning hurt and leaning on the counter once more.
When Darcy’s friend entered the conversation Mathius grinned yet again, more people, more fun. “Best friends I’m assuming? Anybody who comes to see if their friends are okay at work is dedicated.”
"You must be her boss, Jensen." She smiled politely.”
Mathius snorted with laughter, “Me? Jensen? Naw, he’s an old man. I work here as well, the name’s Mathius.” He held out a hand. “Nice to meet you… Bay?” He jumped back onto the counter, sitting comfortably in the shop.

“You most definitely will Darcy dear.” Mathius laughed with a twinkle in his eyes. When she said that she was just teasing he groaned “That is some mean teasing Darcy.”
Darcy was blushing hard now. She moved her hands to cover her cheeks so he couldn't see, which would end in total failure. Now Bay was here to add to the embarrassment. She shook her head.
"Excuse me." Bay said with feigned hurt. "You wound me, my friend. I might have to change the locks to the flat." She threatened teasingly.
She groaned, rubbing her temples. "The two of you will be the death of me." Darcy laughed softly, fixing her top slowly as she was told she looked like she could work for The Ministry. She flashed the pair a brilliant smile. "Why thank you- I try my best." She laughed, smoothing off her skirt out of habit.
"But it looks as though you don't need me to check up you." She dramatically winked at Darcy.
"Oh shh." She glared playfully at her, covering her face from Mathius' gaze, mouthing out to Bay 'He's so cute!'.
Darcy leaned further onto the counter, clicking her black heels on the ground, passing the time. Then she turned when Bay mistook Mathius for Jensen. A huge laugh emitted from the bottom of her stomach, it was very light, though, for how much it took her energy.
"Oh! Bay! How is Mouse?" She asked frantically. "My baby is being left at home for too long." She frowned. Darcy turned towards Mathius, an idea sparked in her eyes.
"Oh Mathius, Mouse is my pet." She smiled, tapping her chin with her finger. "He's kind of a snake. Are you the type to get scared of snakes?" She said, her brow raised, looking between Bay and Mathius, an innocent look on her face.

Bay rolled her eyes. 'She would...' She smirked at her friend.
“Me? Jensen? Naw, he’s an old man. I work here as well, the name’s Mathius.” He held out a hand. “Nice to meet you… Bay?”
Bay blushed awkwardly and laughed. "I am so sorry! She never described her new boss." She had tried to embarrass Darcy and ended up embarrassing herself.
"Oh! Bay! How is Mouse?" Darcy asked frantically. "My baby is being left at home for too long." She frowned. "Oh Mathius, Mouse is my pet." She smiled, tapping her chin with her finger. "He's kind of a snake. Are you the type to get scared of snakes?"
"Is he human?" Bay asked playfully. "That little albino thing had me freaked out for so long." She turned to Mathius, "But he really is a sweet little demon."
Bay sighed and clapped her hands together. "Alright, so I did come in here to tease and check up on you, but I do need something." She turned towards Mathius. "I'm the Head of the Department of International Cooperation and I am currently dealing with the Russian Ministry, trying to retrieve someone to take into custody here. The Auror I spoke to said she would be able to retrieve him soon," She stopped and sneezed violently, pausing her from her rambling. "Anyways, I lived in Russia until I was seven, but I could use a little brush up. Do you by any chance have any Russian language books?" She looked between the two with a soft smile on her face.

She groaned, rubbing her temples. "The two of you will be the death of me."
“Well, we work together and you two live together so you will probably end up dying soon.” Mathius shrugged apologetically but grinned at the same time, defeating the purpose of the shrug.
"Oh Mathius, Mouse is my pet." She smiled, tapping her chin with her finger. "He's kind of a snake. Are you the type to get scared of snakes?"
“Naw, I love everything, except insects,” he shivered, thinking of the crawly things, “Other animals are fine though.” Mathius grinned, “But really, Mouse is an interesting name for a snake. Although, you are what you eat right?”
Mathius turned to Bay when she said that she had actually come there for a better reason then just teasing and checking up on her friend.
“Well, Russian language books.. Yes, I do believe we do!” he replied, grinning. He searched through a pile of books that had just recently been brought out from storage. Soon, he had found the book he was looking for. He held it up, triumphant. “Voila Bay!!! Here, I believe, is what you want.”

Darcy smacked her head on the desk. "Very soon." She laughed.

Darcy grinned, glad he understood her lopsided reasoning. "Exactly! Nobody ever got his name without me having to explain it." She snorted, leaning back to slap Mathius on the knee, grinning. She stepped back to her original spot, leaning on the front counter. "Can you tell I'm that professional?" She laughed jokingly.
Her fingers tapped the desk that she was sprawled out on, her heels clicking as they made small talk about a Russian book. "Ya ne ponimaju!" She spoke out, in a fairly well pretend Russian accent. "That's the only Russian I remember that you taught me." Darcy lifted her head up and stood up, smiling at her friend, then back at Mathius on the counter.

"Thank You!" Bay said before sneezing and going into a coughing fit. She looked up at Darcy and shook her head. "Maybe I ought to go to St. Mungo's. This has to be at least week three." She cleared her through with the back of her arm and looked down at the book, turning it over in her hands and nodding her head. "This is perfect. In fact, I think I used to own a copy of this." She smiled at it's familiarity.

Bay laughed at the memory. "I remember that, and I do believe it took you a few weeks to even get that down." She smiled slyly.

“No, don’t die very soon! I’d have to find a replacement.” Mathius joked. “Jensen hates reading papers so he would probably make me read all of the resumes and man, they are boring.”
He laughed, “I once read a resume that was literally five pages long. I fell asleep reading it.”
"Maybe I ought to go to St. Mungo's. This has to be at least week three."
Mathius watched, concerned, “I don’t want anyone dying in my shop, okay? If you’ve been sick for three weeks it could be something bad.” It was amazing how fast he could go from joking to concerned, but soon he was back to his grinning self.
“You two speak Russian? I only speak English and a bit of French, my grandfather was from France. Even a few words of Russian is pretty good, I don’t even want to try it the language looks so hard!” Mathius was grinning again, though this time more in amazement, Russian was a really difficult language that he didn’t want to waste his time learning, he would fail badly if he did try.

Darcy laughed. "I'd do that. Anything for the sweetie." She grinned. Jensen made her smile. He was cracking jokes when they first met, and he still did every now and then. He had a lot of energy... when he wasn't sleeping.

There it goes again. Merlin, it looks so nice on him. She looked down for a moment, taking her eyes off him, then looking at Bay and laughing. "Her first year, she mostly spoke Russian. It was hard to understand her most of the time." She chuckled, shaking her head. The memories flew through her head. "And you know French? That is so cool! I took three years of it- it is a beautiful language."
"Mathius, I should bring my snake by someday so you can see him." She grinned. "I think he'd like you. He's very observant to personalities and the people around him."

“I don’t want anyone dying in my shop, okay? If you’ve been sick for three weeks it could be something bad.”
Bay watched the man go from joking to concerned. She hadn't meant to ruin the mood. "Well, I think I will give it a little longer. I'm prone to severe headaches and sometimes they get me sick.
“You two speak Russian? I only speak English and a bit of French, my grandfather was from France. Even a few words of Russian is pretty good, I don’t even want to try it the language looks so hard!”
Bay smiled in a friendly way. "I grew up in Russia until I was seven my family and I went on a vacation in Britain. It's a long story, but they were killed and I was put in the London foster care system." She shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly, not wanting to talk about it. "That's why I'm not as good anymore. But I've been thinking about getting back to my roots some."
She flipped through the book some more as Darcy spoke, and she laughed as she offered bringing Mouse by.
"Darcy, that may not be a good idea to bring him to a public store. If Mathius really wants to see Mouse, he should stop by the flat some day for lunch or something." She looked at Darcy. "I would make a joke about you always being free during the week, but now you have a job." She threw an arm over Darcy and stuck her tongue out at her best friend.

Darcy laughed. "I'd do that. Anything for the sweetie." She grinned.
Mathius laughed as well, “Jensen is an old sweetie isn’t he?” he agreed. The old man made everyone who met him laugh, even when he was angry.
"Mathius, I should bring my snake by someday so you can see him." She grinned. "I think he'd like you. He's very observant to personalities and the people around him."
Mathius smiled, thinking that that might not be a good idea, he agreed with Bay on that one. “I’m not sure that Jensen would agree to having a snake in his store, even one named Mouse. Don’t you think Darcy?” He laughed; the old man wouldn’t like having the snake there as it might scare off any customers (or himself).
If Mathius really wants to see Mouse, he should stop by the flat some day for lunch or something."
“I like that idea much better.” Mathius grinned, a twinkle in his eye, at the thought. “I can meet Mouse and visit you all in the same day! It would be quite productive I think.”

Darcy was blushing feverishly. "I meant run by and bring him after store hours." She elbowed Bay lightly, throwing a wad of paper that was by her at Mathius. "But yes, this sounds like a wonderful plan!" Darcy turned and ducked under her friends' arm before popping back up right beside Mathius, looking around and smiling. "So, when are you free?" She flashed him an innocent smile.
Darcy was young and care-free, flirting was the last thing on her mind at the moment, but she was doing just that subconsciously. Her curls bounced around her as she hopped onto the front counter, but facing Mathius, leaning her leg over to kick Bay in the side of her shin, her legs dangling.
