A gentle swoop of the duster and she was finally done. The place looked so much better now.
Darcy had took it on herself to clean the storage room and front counter while her fellow employees were out for lunch, or had just not arrived yet period. Her smile stretched across her lips as she took a couple steps back, almost knocking a pile of books over in the process, to admire her work. She had small hand-candles that she had placed on little wall ledges so that she could see, without ruining the books with the light from the bulbs. Darcy returned the duster to its rightful place on the cleaning cabinet shelf, and looked back.
She dragged her little stepping stool around, climbed up, and individually went to each candle, blowing it out swiftly. She was so proud of herself. Darcy almost seemed to skip to the front desk, closing the door behind her. Her long hair swayed behind her as she shook her clothes out, getting all the cobwebs off her black shirt, the sleeves designed to be lace-like and see through. One could see her freckles through it if they looked close enough. She wiggled her nose, sneezing as the dust got to her. "Oh boy." She groaned.
The day seemed to stretch today, being longer than most others. Once she had gotten in this morning, the old man told her she'd be meeting Mathius today. He was another keeper here that she'd never been scheduled with. She had hoped he'd like her and that she'd make a good impression. Darcy was always nervous it seemed, and nothing calmed her down more than humming to herself.
Her petite frame pushed against the floor as she pulled herself up onto the back counter, grabbing one of her favorite books. She laid it in her lap and began to read over it, tucking her hair behind her ear, her bangs failing to get the message and flopping in her face. They tickled her nose, and once again, she sneezed. But as she sneezed, the sudden motions threw her forwards, and she slipped off the counter onto her bum, laughing hysterically. She could have sworn she heard a door opening just slightly before she fell. Hopefully nobody had seen that.

The cold air that entered Mathius’s lungs as he stepped outside of his flat was refreshing, a relief from the fumes of the paint he had used the night before.
He held his jacket in one hand, thinking that maybe he should put it on if he wanted to walk to work. It was chilly and he had absolutely no wish to freeze that day, it wasn’t on his schedule. What was on his schedule was a full day of manning the shop with someone he had never met before. Jensen was taking a break and there was always supposed to be two people helping in the shop at one time, even if that rarely happened. So Mathius was headed down to help the girl out.
He swung his dark, heavy trench coat over his shoulders, slipping arms into the sleeves. As soon as he buttoned the coat up he could feel the warmth, much nicer then the cold of the morning that he breathed into his lungs. Not that he was going to apparate, walking was much nicer, even if it was freezing outside and work was only a five minute walk from his flat on the second floor of a small building.
He began to tread briskly through the very light dusting of snow that was already beginning to melt in the sun as he headed towards the Leaky Cauldron and onwards towards the entrance of Diagon Alley.
As soon as he stepped foot in the Leaky Cauldron the familiar smell of alcohol hit his nose and he passed through quickly, it was the one place on his route to work that he never really liked the look, or smell of and within moments he was out the other side, his long legs having carried him through the bar in just a few steps.
Minutes later he had entered Diagon Alley through the brick wall and soon stood in front of the shop. Flourish and Blots.
Mathius took one more look at his surrounding, looked up at the perfectly blue sky, and entered the shop with a light shove to the door. He entered just in time to see the new girl fall off of the counter and land laughing on the floor.
Anybody who laughs hysterically after making a fool of themselves was bound to be fun and Mathius walked up to her, holding out a hand to help her up. “Hi! I’m MAthius.”

“Hi! I’m Mathius.”
Darcy looked up to see a tall figure right in front of her. She gasped, laughing still. Her gaze continued upward, finding his eyes and features. She grinned, nodding, taking his hand gladly. She helped pull herself up and brushed herself off. She pulled her hair over to one shoulder, took a deep breath. "Hi! I'm Darcy."
She still was kind of chuckling as she turned around, crouching to pick up the book she had dropped. She straightened back up, turning to look over her shoulder. Her light blue eyes met his once again. "You know, they used to say reading killed people," she started, "but I am thinking they were wrong. More like the dust from the books that made people fall to their death."
She straightened her shirt out, ran her hands through her hair, and turned to face him confidently. "Sorry you had to see that. I'm just lucky I don't get embarrassed too easily." Darcy chuckled again, seemingly unable to get the replay of falling out of her head. "So, it's nice to finally meet you, Mathius. I've heard nothing but good about you. The old man seems to like you." She professed, putting the book on the counter.

Mathius pulled, helping the young lady up. He grinned, watching her move to pick up a book she had dropped.
"You know, they used to say reading killed people," she started, "but I am thinking they were wrong. More like the dust from the books that made people fall to their death."
“I’ve never heard that before, that they thought that reading killed people. But the dust most certainly is at fault for most deaths, I’ve choked on it once or twice, although you seem to have cleaned up nicely!” He said, casting an approving eye around the store and seeing places that used to be thick with dust a darker color without it.
“Yes, you are lucky that you don’t get embarrassed to easily, otherwise I’d be meeting a bright red young lady and it would be slightly awkward.
"So, it's nice to finally meet you, Mathius. I've heard nothing but good about you. The old man seems to like you."
“It’s nice to meet you too Darcy, Jensen thinks that you’re quite a happy person and he likes happy, so I think you’re set in the job. If the old man likes you, he isn’t ever going to want you to leave.” Mathius grinned, looking at his new co-worked with happiness, “I’m thinking that with you here the store will be a livelier place.”

"People actually never said that... I just needed something to blame my falling on and break the ice." Darcy winked, a smile on her lips. She beamed when he complimented her work. She pulled her hands to her hips and nodded, glancing around herself. "Why thank you!"
“Yes, you are lucky that you don’t get embarrassed to easily, otherwise I’d be meeting a bright red young lady and it would be slightly awkward."
Darcy blushed faintly, waving her hand back and fourth as it to say 'don't worry about it'. "It shouldn't ever be awkward with me." She laughed.

Darcy blushed even more. "I've taken quite a liking to this place. I'm glad someone here likes me already." She giggled, leaning back on the back counter, crossing her legs, facing Mathius. Her slim-fitting, black pencil skirt restricted how far she could move around. "I could say the same thing about working with you!" Darcy glanced around briefly, then back to him. "So how long have you been here?" Curisoity overtook her eyes, an innocent smile on her face.

"People actually never said that... I just needed something to blame my falling on and break the ice."
Mathius laughed, “That’s a perfectly good reason to make something up.” He joked, grinning. “And you’re welcome!”
"It shouldn't ever be awkward with me."
“Well I hope not, wouldn’t want to have to work with you if it were awkward.” Mathius laughed again before going behind the counter, hanging up his coat. “I really do love this shop. Flourish and Blots is my second home.” He waved his hand over the entire shop with its precariously stacked books and wobbly shelves.
“I could say the same thing about working with you!" Darcy glanced around briefly, then back to him. "So how long have you been here?"
“Why thank you Darcy. I like to think I keep the place running nicely.” He grinned again, Mathius was rarely without a smile.
“I’ve been here for about a year and a half-ish. It’s a really good job, not to hard but I get to meet new people all of the time. I’m a social person, it’s really nice. Although I must say I’m glad I’ve got someone to talk to other than the old man though, he tends to nod off in some conversations.”

Darcy held her heart, a hurt look on her face. "Well, I see how it is," She smirked, "if you don't want to work with me, I'll ask not to be scheduled with you." She teased, scrunching up her nose playfully.
“Why thank you Darcy. I like to think I keep the place running nicely.” He grinned again, Mathius was rarely without a smile.
Darcy took note of his personality, it was a change from the places she had worked, very comfortable and welcoming. "So are you usually always this happy?" She chuckled, eying him suspiciously. "Not that I'm complaining. A smile looks wonderful on you from what I see."

She listened carefully. She had just started working a couple of months ago- never met Mathius. It was crazy. She took note that he liked talking, being friendly, and smiling. "A true social butterfly." Darcy winked. "I'll try not to fall asleep while talking to you- you can't be that boring." She playfully patted his shoulder, a giggle escaping.

“Fine.” Mathius replied, pretending to look angry, but really unable to pull it off. He finally just ended up smiling again.
"So are you usually always this happy?" She chuckled, eying him suspiciously. "Not that I'm complaining. A smile looks wonderful on you from what I see."
Mathius chuckled, “Yes, actually, I tend to smile a lot.” He grinned again, showing that he meant what he said about smiling a lot.
. "A true social butterfly." Darcy winked. "I'll try not to fall asleep while talking to you- you can't be that boring."
“I don’t know about being a social butterfly, I’m a bit of an eccentric…” He laughed, winking back. “The old man is the only one who can fall asleep when I’m talking, I’m a bit loud for people to sleep with me around. Jensen’s just old.” HE joked.

Darcy couldn't stop smiling. Their first day of working together was going swimmingly. "So, if I fall asleep while talking to you, what's going to happen?" She quizzed, interested. "I mean," she paused, "I can't promise I always get enough sleep." She was teasing of course, her hand rested on her chin, biting at her fingernails like she always did.
She picked up the book she had almost finished reading and felt the spine, smiling to herself. "What made you want to work here? Do you like reading, or was it just an available position?" Her voice was quiet, and she kept her head down for a moment, just glancing to her side where he stood, light blue eyes taking in his features. She'd memorize his face, his voice. Darcy did that with everyone she met.

“If you fall asleep talking to me I will either draw on your face like a preteen or tickle you until you fall off of whatever you fell asleep on.” Still joking, Mathius hoped that she wouldn’t get bored of his jokes, they had a long day of work ahead of them.
He watched as she picked up her book and he smiled… again.
"What made you want to work here? Do you like reading, or was it just an available position?"
“I don’t really know, a job was needed, I like the smell of books, and Jensen seemed like a good boss so I decided to take the job. Also, it’s in Diagon Alley and I sell some of my art work here.” He looked out into the street where people were beginning to fill the streets. “We should get ready for the customers.” He suggested.

“If you fall asleep talking to me I will either draw on your face like a preteen or tickle you until you fall off of whatever you fell asleep on.”
Darcy raised her eyebrow. "I can tell who the mature one is, here." A smirk played nicely on her face, her light blue eyes seemed to darken a bit as they teased each other. "And, I don't know, I think I could pull off a mustache." She winked playfully and bumped him with her arm as they both got around for work.

"Let the fun times begin!" She said happily, no sarcasm there. She enjoyed talking with people, helping people, and usually she got along well with everyone- nobody had anything bad to say about her.
A couple customers came in, one of which was a younger boy, probably twelve or so. She skipped up to him as he was concentrating hard on the titles, and kneeled beside him. A big smile was on her face and she couldn't help it. "Need any help?" She offered as he turned to her.
He asked her about books about dragons and mystical animals. She nodded happily and led him to the appropriate shelves, talking to him about what each one was about and how she had read it too. He ended up buying two of them, shoving his money at her basically. She laughed and wished him luck with them.
"Kids," she laughed, passing Mathius on her way to help someone else, "gotta love them, right?"

“Ah, that would be me. Thank you for recognizing that! As to the mustache, no, don’t ever…” Mathius grinned rather goofily.
"Let the fun times begin!" She said happily, no sarcasm there.
“Well said Darcy, well said.” MAthius responded before heading over to the counter where he began organizing things the way he liked them to be.
He watched as Darcy handled a customer and smiled, she was great with kids.
He saw a couple enter and walked over to help them. They wanted a book about Transfiguration and he helped them out, heading to the counter so he could put the money in the right place.

"Uhm, no." She shook her said. "Sorry to break it to you, its me!" She scooted around the counter and placed in another payment, returning the proper change to the customer and waving them goodbye.
"Have a nice day!" She grinned, turning to Mathius, her facial expression glowing.
When the crowd died down, she leaned back against the counter like before and yawned a bit, quietly. She wiggled her nose, ran her fingers through the ends of her hair nervously, and glanced around the shop.
"But yeah- you don't think I could pull off a mustache?" She scoffed, shaking her head. Darcy pulled a clump of hair together, pulled it over her lip, and puffed her lips up holding it in place. "See?" She mumbled, stifling a smile for her mustache would fall. "I can look classy with one. All I need now is a monocle."

Mathius gave in, sort of, “Fine, but not for long missy, just you wait.” He laughed before heading over to help someone else.
HE came back after a while when the shop was empty and grinned at Darcy.

“No, I really don’t.” MAthius said, grinning some more, “Add a top hat to the outfit and you’ll be fine though! Oh, and maybe shorter hair. Mustaches and long hair really don’t go so well together.”
OOC: Sorry!!! Muse is awful right now!!!

“Fine, but not for long missy, just you wait.” He laughed.
Darcy scrunched her nose up again, sticking her tongue out. "I am not giving up my title any time soon!" She stubbornly proclaimed. Once Mathius finished with his last customer, she pointed at him and started singing a song.
"I'll be here, by your side. No more fears, no more crying. But if you walk away I know I'll fade. Cause there is nobody else! It's gotta be youuu!"
She smiled brightly, listening to him critique her classy look. "A top hat? That is SO.... great of an idea." She winked. She pretended to take off a hat and bow to him, like a gentlemen would a lady.
"Oh, and maybe shorter hair. Mustaches and long hair really don’t go so well together.”
"I am not cutting my hair, though!" She gasped, still smiling like she had been all day so far. "That's too extreme." She shook her head. "How about this," she looked at him, extending her hand, like she was making a deal, "you cut your hair and I'll cut mine." She grinned, knowing he probably wouldn't accept- hopefully, at least. A hint of doubt loomed in her eyes, her eyebrows raised playfully.
