The class was prepped; everything was in order, and Professor Raisa Piper knew that class was going to begin within minutes. On the board she had written “Magizoology” in big, sloping letters. She knew that nearly every student who showed up for her class was either dedicated to her subject or just loved the class. Magizoology was optional, not a class that you took if you hated it, unless there were unknown reasons. There are, of course, always exceptions to everything, and Raisa’s class was no different.
Every student would hopefully have a copy of “Everything You Want to Know About Magical Creatures” by Malik Vargen, but she always kept a couple of copies in her desk, just in case. Professor Piper pinned her long hair up into a messy bun, smoothing out her Professor’s robes with a deep breath. She loved to teach her class, but before every lesson she was anxious, for what reason she never knew, only that she was a naturally anxious person.
As people slowly began to pile into the smallish class room her anxiety slowly dissipated, her assurance that everything would go fine was hardened once again at the smiles upon some student’s faces. It was just a class, and she was fine.
Once most of the students had taken their seats and Raisa had checked the time to see if class could start, she began to speak. “Hello,” she said, smiling kindly, “Welcome back to Magizoology. I know that some of you don’t want to be in class right now. Look outside, the sun must be beckoning. But here, inside my class, you will learn everything that I can teach you about magical creatures. If you don’t want to be here, or if you’re bored, just take a look inside your books and stay a moment longer, for today I will be teaching you about Kelpie’s.” She stopped, flipping the board so that the other side faced the class. Upon it was an elaborate picture of a weird looking pony. She proceeded to ask “What exactly is a Kelpie, and why is it a malevolent magical creature?” Raisa hoped that a student would be able to elaborate on its tendency to steal children, drown them, and devour them. Class would definitely] be interesting.

Hannah rushed into the Magizoology classroom. She thought she was late but was relieved to see she wasn’t. She sat down at the first open seat she found and opened her Everything You Want to Know About Magical Creatures book . She honestly had no idea what to expect in this class but she was looking forward to class. She wondered what this class would be like since she had never had this professor before but then realized the professor had ask what a Kelpie. She remembered the stories her father told her about the time he was fishing on Loch Ness. “A Kelpe is a shapeshifting water demon. It lures people unto it’s back and then devours the rider once it has reached the bottle of the river,” said Hannah hoping she wouldn’t get in trouble for answering out loud.

Creaturesm dancing, Madeline found a great interest in magical creatures. Her interest in them stems form her father's collection of fossils and such, some replicas, some original, that Darwin had discovered on his way back from the Galapagos Islands. Her family had acquired them through a purchase made with an American Museum of Natural History. The idea of animals responding to the environment just like humans do- it thrilled her. She spent most of her days asking her father questions and posing new ideas with him as a child about how animals thought and how they grew.
A giraffe didn't just grow it's neck by wishing it to be longer, now did it?
Madeline pulled her bag up higher on her shoulders and tilted her head down on the way to class, traveling up the stairs by herself. Nobody seemed to notice her, really. Despite her Hufflepuff sorting, she was kind of quiet most days so no attention was really ever drawn to her. A solitary student; she was indeed.
After reaching the classroom, she slipped around the door just enough to notice the lack of people in there before her. Was she too early? With an inward shrug, she slipped onto a seat mid-way to the front and pulled out her quill and parchment just in case, and her book “Everything You Want to Know About Magical Creatures”. Her smiles turned up into a hint of a smile and she leaned onto her desk, relaxing a bit as there weren't many people just yet.
Madeline had arrived just in time for a question to be caught, and as her fellow Hufflepuff answered, she smiled in an agreement. Kelpies were strange creatures, that was for sure. But Madeline loved strange creatures; the human race itself was a strange creature.

Hannah was relieved to see another fellow Hufflepuff but she had no idea what her name was. She smiled friendly at the girl. Hannah knew she would have to start the conversation. All or nothing, that should be the Hufflepuff motto though Hannah. “I’m Hannah Abbott. Don’t worry I think students are taking their time getting here because they don’t like the subject,” said Hannah.

Cordelia Harrington slowly made her way to Magizoology. A class that Cordelia loved very much, not that she let it show in her body language. In fact, the only way anyone would know, was if they saw her grades in there. She worked extra hard in the class, and did swimmingly on all her exams. She got an 'O' on her OWL for the class, and always made some of the top scores on any of the exams or assignments. It was, by far, her best class. She hated that she couldn't be outwardly enthused. She wanted to- how she wanted to. But she couldn't. It wasn't proper for her. If she was surrounded by her fellow Slytherin's, she would be different, but around the, others, she just couldn't find it in her.
And now the Slytherin made her way down a crowded hallway. She spotted her best friend Iven making his way to class, and she smiled sadly. She had a lot on her mind, and she didn't know how to handle it all. How exactly did you deal with being promised to a Durmstrang student who had a reputation for a violent temper, and being in love with your Half-Vampire best friend who loved you in return. It made life complicated, and it was all setting in on Cordelia. It made her heart constrict at night and her chest hurt. It weighed on her mind constantly and hindered her concentration.
A hindered concentration is exactly what Cordelia was currently suffering from. As she came back to her surroundings she realized that she was standing in front of Professor Piper's teaching area. Her eyes widened slightly and she closed her eyes, forcing her Sight to replay the buried memory of her actually walking into the classroom. Three Hufflepuffs came to mind and she actually relaxed. As much as she disliked Hufflepuff's, she couldn't find herself to be embarrassed around them. Not really at least. She blushed and made momentary eye contact with the Professor, who, though a Mudblood, Cordelia actually felt comfortable around her.
"Sorry," she mumbled a bit. Cordelia turned and walked towards the back of class. Before she reached the first row of desks she turned back to her professor with a small smile, "Kelpie's are shape-shifting water demons who lure travelers into the water. Unlike most water demons, Kelpie's can actually be tamed, if you will- by controlling their heads like that of a horse." She went to turn back ahead before she paused, a somewhat bigger smile on her face, "The most popular one is the Lochness Monster." Cordelia finally turned and made her way to the back of the room where she silently took her seat.
