Professor Jasper Michaels loved Astronomy and he loved teaching the subject matter, but if the student did not want to learn it, he did not enjoy teaching it. He figured if someone really wanted to learn something then he would teach them until they turned blue in the face, but, from experience, if there was that one person who did not want to learn the subject, why even bother trying to explain it to them. But Jasper tried, and Astronomy was a subject that could be very easy and then turn around and be very complex; which is why he loved it.
It was late in the evening, about nine o'clock and he was on the top most part of the Astronomy tower getting ready for the nights' lesson. He had his reflector telescope, black and gold in color, all set up. He hoped that students remembered to bring their telescopes; which was a requirement for the class, but had some spares just in case some forgot theirs. He would not take away house points for not having a telescope, but he would give them a warning that it was indeed a requirement for the class.
Jasper was a good professor and tried to be very fair with students. He did not judge by what house, blood status or year the student was in; for he believed everyone was equal in their own ways.
After getting all set up, he was ready for class to begin. He had a couple big cabinets for all the supplies that they would need; like star wheels, star charts, extra books and whatever else they would need for class. He even had spare parts for telescopes that would break or if they needed lunar filters for looking at the moon and what not.
In fact, Jasper put his lunar filter on his telescope since that lesson they would be studying the moon; and the lunar filter would block out some of the extra light that shone through the telescopes to get a better look at the moon and its features. He had sent a message to students to make sure they brought their books, parchment and quills, telescopes and lunar filters to class to make sure they did have the right equipment.
When he was all set up and as he could hear students starting to file up the stairs, he smiled. This was such a beautiful night and there was not a breath of wind or a cloud in the sky. The moon was also bright and full; which was perfect to study.
"Can anyone tell me what the phases of the moon are called," he asked as students started filing into class, "Five points for the correct answer. And I will give you a hint, there are nine total phases, but if you only name five you still get the points." The question was rather easy if they did their reading on the moon before class and so not many points were going to be awarded.

Delphi Emma flung herself out of bed. Tonight she had an Astronomy class and had thought to take a nap before hand. Now she was slipping into her black flats and pulling her outer uniform cloak on over her black button up shorts and green loose fitting top. Her necklace was a metal black bow that matched the tiny metal balls she had pressed onto her black nails. Of course the back was off set by her pink hair. Delphi flew out of the room, only stopping once she got just outside of the Common Room.
"Dammit all..." She turned around, remembering that she had left all her supplies on her bed. She was brought up short by the door to the Common Room. It asked her the Riddle and she face palmed. She was too tired for this. She stood there for at least five minutes before getting frustrated enough to think clearly. Finally she was let it. She grabbed her stuff, all of it, and bolted to the Astronomy Tower. Luckily she had initially left early. Delphi began was rushing up the stairs into the towers room, looking down into her bag to pull her telescope out when the top of her foot hit the top step and her eyes widened comically as the floor rushed up to meet her. She hopped up quickly, blushing only a second before she started laughing at herself. "Typical Emma." She muttered to herself. She walked further into the room and found that she was the first student to arrive. "Typical Ravenclaw." She amended her earlier statement.
The Ravenclaws nose crinkled up when the Professor asked about the moon phases. She had read her text, but she didn't have the best memory for this stuff, and she didn't want to go back and look. It was the only minor thing that made her awkward for Ravenclaw. She had trouble remembering everything she had read, which only made her have to study even harder. The girl closed her eyes and took a deep breath, sometimes it helped her remember. She tried to picture the pages of the book.
"Well," She said with her eyebrows furrowed. "There is the Full Moon, the New Moon, Waning Crescent, Waning Crescent," she looked up at her Professor, "isn't there a first and third quarter as well?" She wasn't sure. Delphi took her seat and pulled her materials out before a question came to her.
"Professor, would you count a Blood Moon as a phase of the moon?" She asked sincerely curious. Astronomy was, after all, one of her favorite classes. Just behind Ancient Runes of course.

Destrey less than willed himself to get out of bed that night, but he needed to go to Astronomy. Slipping on his shoes again, he fixed his bedhead in the mirror and headed out of the dorms, leaving behind a few sleeping housemates. Destrey stopped by a few people and held a conversation about the tournament, talking about the tasks and who they thought would be the winner of it all. Destrey was already friends with Delphi, or Emma as she begged him to be called, so he was on her side. Even though she was in fact in Ravenclaw and he was in Gryffindor.
It didn't take the slender boy very long to jog his way to the towers where class was held. He made it just in time to see Emma going in. He smiled warmly to himself and took the stairs slowly, hearing the professor begin to talk to the few students who were already in the classroom.
"Can anyone tell me what the phases of the moon are called," he asked as students started filing into class, "Five points for the correct answer. And I will give you a hint, there are nine total phases, but if you only name five you still get the points."
Destrey pulled his bag off his shoulder, allowing Emma to finish, before slowly sitting down next to her with a small "Hello." He pulled his Astronomy book out of his bag and set it under his chair, nodding towards the professor too.
"That is easy," he grinned, raising his hand proudly, to get his attention before continuing, "New Moon, Full Moon, Waning Crescent, Waxing Crescent, Waning Gibbous, Waxing Gibbous, First Quarter Moon, Third Quarter Moon, and Last Quarter Moon." His eyes lit up and he sighed. That was a mouth full. "I just really love this class." He beamed to his friend and pulled his book open.
Destrey's light blue eyes roamed the classroom as more voices began to ring in and answer the question, nodding to himself as each person answered their turn. Destrey did, indeed, love astronomy.

David had been in the classroom before anyone else had arrived but luckily he hadn't been seen due to the fact of his positioning within the room. He was sitting in the center of the back row and no-one had said anything to him, it would be a good day if this was the way it would be.
It had been a late night for David, in fact he was reading over an astronomy book in preparation for today's lesson. He hadn't really needed to however as most of the topics they had covered up to this time David had gone over a few months before.
After David being in the room for around two hours people started to file in, first was Jasper who had seemingly not noticed David as he hadn't said a single word to him. David then noticed Emma walk into the classroom it was evident that she had been in his class before but up to their encounter she had never been a distraction.
The question was administered by Professor Michaels and Emma followed up with a quick answer. Strangely another person answered and this person was sitting directly next to Emma.
"I just really love this class"'
David rolled his eyes, sucking up got people nowhere and this boy wasn't doing himself any favours. Obviously David didn't care as he had decided that no-one was as important as himself, and the voices in his head obviously.
He begun to write a few notes, and the class continued regardless.

Elijah scowled at the two students vying for their professor's attention as he pulled his robe tighter around himself. Keeners, he spat inwardly. It was an easy question, one that a third-year could answer. There was no need for the Gryffindor to get so proud of himself for answering. And if the girl had so much as flipped through her textbook, she would have known too.
"Of course a Hunter's Moon isn't," he snapped, using the 'Blood Moon's appropriate name. It was a genuine question, he knew, but he wasn't in the greatest mood. "It's once a year, and just another name for the full moon."
Slumping down against the wall, not bothering to wait for a reply, he fiddled with his bag to pull out his own telescope. It was older than most in the room, though not lacking in quality at all. He'd wait for more students to file in before he started putting it together, clicking pieces into place and sliding the lenses he kept carefully wrapped in their own compartment of his bag in.
Astronomy was a subject he somewhat enjoyed, though he would admit it to no one, and certainly not the other students of this class. He'd read many books as a child, often wondering if there was life far off in the universe and watching old science fiction shows about exploring the far reaches of the galaxy. But those were children's fables, and he was far too old to be caught up in such nonsense now.
Staring expectantly at Professor Michaels, he frowned when he realized he seemed to be busy fixing a filter onto his telescope. He had come here to learn, not to sit around and answer these silly questions. When it was clear to him he was not going to get his attention, he huffed out a small breath and settled on pulling out the different parts of his telescope instead.

Asher Herring ran up the final step into the Astronomy classroom and stopped. His eyes quickly scanned the room. It was pretty full by now, but he zoned in on his best friend, Destrey Riddington.
"Destrey!" He called out in a dramatically girly voice, and quite literally skipped to his side. Asher slid into the seat beside the fifth year. "You are so short!" He rubbed the little guys hair and pulled his books out. He had just heard the little guy answer the teachers question, "What he said." He gave a childish grin and jerked his head in Gryffindor's direction. He flipped the page open. "Oh, the moon." He muttered softly and leaned into Destrey's personal space, "I hope there are no werewolves in class, because that wouldn't be awkward at all." He said ridiculously.
Asher yawned, covering his mouth with his sleeve, and stretched down into his seat, letting his long legs make room in front of him. He pulled his telescope out and turned it around in his hands. "I know I've figured this out before, I just know it." Asher enjoyed Astronomy, even managed an 'E' in his OWL. That didn't mean he didn't struggle in it sometimes. Luckily Destrey excelled in the class, and Asher had no doubts that the boy would manage an 'O' on his exams.
"Destrey, a little help here." he grinned at the boy sheepishly. "You can explain to me a million times how to do this, but it just won't click." He shook his head. He hated his memory sometimes. Ever since the accident that wiped all his memories preceding his eleventh birthday, somethings just wouldn't process in his memory, and it embarrassed him. Asher looked over the boys head and spotted Delphi, who preferred the name Emma, and smiled. He knew her through Rhye, who was her best friend, and his best friend. So they had to share. "Evening Emma, you are looking fabulous under the stars." His eyes widened, "Can you put stars into your hair?" He asked in excitement, wondering how skilled she was with being a Meta.

Neville hated getting up once he was in a deep sleep, expecially for class. He loved being in his dreamland becasue nobosy could bother him there. He heard his clock go off and sat right up straight and let out a bit of a yelp. He rubbed his eyes vigourously and looked at the time. He set it for the wrong time and he was quite late...once again like usuall.
He quickly got out of bed, put on his clothes really quickly and grabbed his books and headed to the astronomy tower. Running fast to the shortcut with his shirt dangling and hanging out of his pants, his bag ripped and all of his books fell out. He quickly turnned and bent down and gathered his things in his hands and continued to run to the tower.
As his things were fallng behind him as he was running, he continued to run no matter what he was loosing, but he was always late for his classes..even Herbology, but not as much. He was passing the shortcut and was heading up the stairs and he tripped on one of the stairs and he fell and wacked his head off another stair infront of him. "Ouch!" he screamed at the top of his lungs. "This calls shoud be outlawed..rediculas having a class this late at night" he whaled to himself as he got up and was holding his head tightly.
He finally reached the top pf the tower and entered the class. The boy looked like he was ran over twice by an enchanted car. "Sssorry I'm late" he said to the professor with the look of sheer pain on his face. He quickly glanced around the room for a seat and noticed a few Gryffandor's and a few Ravenclaw's. He headed towards one of the tables until he heard his name being called by a familiar voice.

Delphi lit up when the fifth year Gryffindor entered the tower. He was so sweet and cute. He just didn't realize it. The boy was awkward around girls, and Delphi couldn't help but love the guy. He sat down beside her and muttered a low, 'hello. Delphi wrapped an arm around his shoulder and pulled him in for a side hug. If she could, she would adopt the boy as a brother if she could. He was shy and quiet. The opposite of herself.
"Well hello my fine young man," she laughed softly as he pulled his stuff out. He then turned to answer the teacher and Delphi raised an eyebrow, "are you sure you weren't meant for Ravenclaw?" she winked with a laugh. But then she rolled her eyes when Elijah started to speak. His words were condescending and flat toned. Typical Elijah. She was used to his attitude by now. At one point in her years, his words had hurt her, wounded her even. But she never retaliated. Not really anyways. She would give a typical eye roll, and mock silently his words. But tonight Delphi was in too good of a mood for that. She turned her head towards her House Mate.
"Love you too, Elijah dear." She said with a sincere smile. Delphi faced the front of the room with a chuckle. She didn't think Elijah liked her much, but that didn't bother her. Delphi wasn't one to judge- and as long as you didn't judge her, then you were okay in her book. There was a slight commotion and Delphi turned to see a Gryffindor, one of Rhye's friends, come bounding into the room. Asher was indeed your typical Gryffindor. He complimented her and she rolled her eyes with a slight smile. A ridiculously dumb question passed his lips and she sighed in exasperation. "For the one thousandth time Asher, yes, I could do that if I wanted to, but no one, not even me, would do that." Then she heard a much louder commotion and a yell. She turned towards the door as Neville, one of her friends, came into the room. As soon as she saw him, she called out to him. Class hadn't officially started yet, thank Merlin, and so she was okay.
"Neville!" She called out to him and waved him over, directing him to the empty chair beside her. Delphi reached in her back and pulled out a bag of fresh raspberries. It was the one snack she had on her at all times and simply couldn't live without.

Daphne strode down the halls towards the far tower of the castle. She had an Astronomy class and she was far from happy about it. A good number of Slytherin's were staying up late to drink and have a gay old time. But what was she stuck doing? Looking at the 'pretty stars'. She rolled her eyes at the thought. It wasn't that she didn't like Astronomy, she actually enjoyed it very much. It was calming to her. However, it was the fact that it fell under this particular night. Daphne was making her way gracefully up the steps when she heard a yell up ahead of her. It sounded like a cry of pain and she smirked, continuing her ascent. Neville. The dunderhead Gryffindor who could master nothing- couldn't even pull off being adept at anything. She seemed to step over him as she entered the room, not even glancing down. Her eyes scanned the room as she looked for a good open spot. Nothing. Well, nothing she felt like taking. There were a few spots scattered here and there, but they were single spots, and Chris was supposed to show.
Finally, she noticed two spots. Unfortunately, they were near a Hufflepuff. Oily Osler as the Slyhtherins had dubbed him. The boy seemed highly unstable and perhaps even unsanitary. After all, he was a Mudblood. Daphne's lipped turned up into a disgusted sneer. It was the only two open spots. And not only was it by a Hufflepuff, but a Mudblood Hufflepuff. She slowly turned towards the teacher.
"Professor," she said smoothly, "exactly how many points would be deducted if I were to just," she glanced at the seventh year, "walk out of class?" In the end, Daphne made her way towards the only two seats and sat, pulling her stuff from her bag and glancing back at the entrance, waiting for Christopher to make his appearance. Daphne suddenly regretted not waiting for him.

There was one reason, and one reason only for Christopher’s attendance at this particular Astronomy class. The reason was that Daphne would be there and he was in one of his particularly cruel moods, a party would do nothing to ease his mind. What would increase his happiness would be a good couple of hours loudly whispering snide comments and poking fun at the lesser beings.
Sometimes being them was better than a party.
Chris slowly strode up the steps to the Astronomy Tower, his book bag haphazardly slung over his shoulder and his hair a mess. He looked like he felt, in need of a good bit of fun and really not caring just how he got it.
Anyways, there he was, making his way to class, when he could be out having a really good time. Hopefully Daphne was there already, one minute in class with his victims without his partner in crime would be nearly excruciating. Throwing things at people can only keep one occupied for so long.
Christopher was late for class, so it seemed unlikely that he would be arriving after Daphne. If she didn’t save a seat for him…. Well, let’s just say that her next drink wouldn’t be just pumpkin juice.
Ah well, whatever was going to happen, would happen, and the most the Slytherin could do was make the most of it.
A few more steps up the stairs and he had reached the entrance to the so called ‘classroom.’ It took him a moment or so of looking around to see Daphne, in the seconds before he had thought that there were far too many seats near the Mudbloods and Hufflepuffs to survive the class. Even Daphne sat next to the Mudblood Hufflepuff, and boy that must have been one hell of a decision for her. He smirked, thinking that if things turned out right, class could just be fun.
“Daphne m’dear.” He said smoothly, slipping into the seat next to her with a grin. She was one of the few people he smiled at, or rather, she was one of the few people he smiled genuinely at. “Why are you sitting here?” he asked in a very purposefully carrying whisper. “I don’t want you to catch something.” Oh yes, being the only two Slytherins would make for a very interesting Astronomy class.

With the welcoming side hug from Delphi, he blushed like an idiot. Any "embrace" from women made him clench up inside. Destrey made a quick glance around the room to make sure Delphi's Slytherin boyfriend, Caesar, hadn't noticed. As soon as he was sure he wasn't there, he glanced up to the sixth year with a nervous smile. Destrey wasn't one to be in these situations, these personal, hugging, touching situations. He was so awkward when it came to girls- any girls.
"Well hello my fine young man," she laughed softly. Delphi raised an eyebrow, "are you sure you weren't meant for Ravenclaw?" she winked. Destrey ran his fingers through the tips of his hair, brushing them aside in a nervous habit. The blonde hair reflected with an almost white color under the lighting in the room. He gave her another smile, unsure of how to respond to that.
"Honestly don't know how I managed Gryffindor other than the fact that I'm loud most days and I like to laugh. I guess I'm boisterous and outgoing?" He chuckled with a shrug of his shoulders until a voice crudely corrected Delphi's earlier statement.
"Of course a Hunter's Moon isn't," he snapped. "It's once a year, and just another name for the full moon." Destrey looked over his shoulder at the snarky Ravenclaw as he fiddled with his own telescope, a shocked and slightly unimpressed look in his eyes. Turning away, he nudged Delphi.
"I like it's nickname better anyways." He smiled comfortingly but was soon interrupted by a voice he had grown to love. It belonged to a certain Gryffindor named Asher Herring- one of Destrey's good friends.
"Destrey!" He called out in a dramatically girly voice. Destrey hurriedly looked over his shoulder and shot him a bewildered grin.
"Asher!" He returned a girly voice of his own, motioning him over- though it wouldn't have mattered. Asher had decided to skip his way over anyways.
"I hope there are no werewolves in class, because that wouldn't be awkward at all." He said ridiculously. Destrey let out a small laugh and patted his best friend on the back, a huge grin on his face as he scooted between Delphi and himself.
As Destrey began helping Asher with his telescope and explaining again how to put them together, he heard a loud tumbling noise and a scream. The voice belonged to Longbottom. Destrey let out a louder laugh this time. That boy had no sense of balance or time. But he sure was a hoot to be around. As the seventh year entered and apologized, Destrey flashed him a big smile too, nodding his head in a 'hello' of sorts. Last but not least to join the group was a Slytherin girl he knew as Daphne Greengrass. He hadn't heard any good talk of her, so Destrey being wise and a muggleborn, never bothered to go near her. The Slytherin then challenged the professor by asking to leave at the cost of some points. He grimaced inwardly and shook his head. 'So much disrespect.'
Not long after her, it seemed, another Slytherin who's name was not known to Destrey showed up. They exchanged words that Destrey never bothered with, and he went back to Asher's telescope, laughing at his miserable attempt at constructing it.

Hannah had woken up late which was a very bad thing since the Hufflepuff Common Room was by the kitchen. Of course then she got the Astronomy Tower confused with the Divination Tower so she had to run around trying to find the right staircase. She knew she was so late by now after seeing the group of students that had gathered. "Sorry for being late. I got a bit lost," said Hannah out of breath. That line was getting rather popular lately since she was late to almost every class.

With an exasperated snort at Delphi's comment, Elijah set a scowl on his face and pointedly turned his back to her and the Gryffindor friend that had joined her. He wasn't her friend; why did she treat him as if they were? The light tone to her voice rubbed him the wrong way, and he felt his lip raise the slightest bit in a sneer as he set about putting his telescope together.
Setting up the stand was nothing hard, and he kept away from the other students as he assembled the body. Attaching the eyepiece to the neck, he fitted it into the cradle and took out the lenses. Glancing for a second out at the sky, he saw the familiar shape of his owl, Perdita, swirling about in the sky. He often let her out during the night to hunt or carry letters, and after years of watching her he knew her favourite spots to go. A faint smile flittered on his face for a brief moment as the high-pitched screech of her cry rang out before she dove down out of sight.
Elijah once again turned to the Professor, willing the lesson to start so he might have something to do. Of all the things he could be doing at the time, sitting around with half-brain students was not at the top of his list. He placed his largest lens into the holder and swiveled the instrument so that it faced the sky, and then slumped back against the wall.
