When Darcy came into Mathius’s life, he knew that she was special, that she was going to be a part of him. He didn’t realize until their third and best date that they would be spending eternity together. How he knew? He would never know. What he did know was that she was his, and he was hers, and he wanted it to be like that forever, and ever, ever; plus a day. Within days of his decision, Mathius had gone out searching for the perfect ring; he wanted it to be special – special enough that it would work for Darcy. He wanted to make her feel as special as he felt she was, as he knew she was. However, being so particular about what he wanted her to have on her finger for the rest of his life, it took him a few months to find one. Luckily, over those couple of months (three and a half to be exact), his decision had become more and more cemented in his mind, more and more clear to him that it was the perfect thing to do. It was actually amazing how he had found the ring, he had been thinking of Darcy, walking along the street, when he heard something. It was the sound of somebody singing – not in his head, on the street. So Mathius followed the sound and saw a young woman singing outside of a jewellery store. In the end, he listened to her and walked into the store, just to see what was inside. There, in the corner, was the perfect ring. It shone as Darcy shone, and was beautiful (though it dimed in comparison to his love). He had found it by chance, just by following a singer’s voice to the corner of the street he wouldn’t have gone to at all if not for fate. It was fate, after all, that led him and Darcy together. And now, now he was preparing for the proposal that he hoped would be perfect. If it wasn’t, well, Darcy would understand. He had chosen somewhere that he knew to be beautiful, it had a bit of sentimental meaning to him, but that was really unimportant. He had gone there with his mother when he was young, and it was where he had first realized that he was a wizard (when he somehow stopped his mother from falling in the pond) of course, he didn’t know he was a wizard, all he knew then was that he had stopped her from getting wet, and that made him proud. It was beautiful though, the marble stepping stones, the white pavilion on a stone island. The garden around was secluded, and comfortable. Hopefully Darcy would like it. Darcy. If there were words for how much he loved her, he would say them, but nothing could really connect the way his heart did to her. Nonetheless, he knew what he was going to say to her at that moment when he would be sitting with her in a lovely place. Even the mere thought of that evening made his heart sputter, nearly stopping in it’s tracks at the sheer excitement and nervousness he felt. All of the other times in his life that he had felt both at once had nothing on this time. He wanted to jump, shout, scream to the world that he was going to marry his soul mate. But alas, that would give away the surprise. Mathius had sent a note by owl to Darcy, telling her where they would meet and when, saying that it was just going to be a fun, romantic date by the pond. Dear Sunshine,
I’ve arranged for a lovely night at (location) for us to just relax. It is a beautiful area and I hope that you will like it, I’ve rarely seen a more romantic place. Please meet me at 7:30 pm, have dinner first (my cooking isn’t good enough for this).
I love you, forever and a day,
Your Mathius Bear. It was rather formal, but that was how he wanted it to be. Mathius didn’t want her to suspect anything, and if everything went according to plan, she wouldn’t until he got down on one knee. Knowing deep in his heart that Darcy would say yes, he prepared as such. His dress was semi-casual, meant to be more than his usual, just for her. And he had a small bottle of champagne that he would hide until afterwards. Everything was ready, except... Mathius grabbed the small golden box that sat on his dresser, slipping it into a pocket out of sight. Now he was ready to go. With a shuddering breath, Mathius was out the door, apparating into the diming evening. It was seven; he had to have time to calm himself. He arrived within moments in the place that was precisely the same as it had been when he had gone there nearly twenty years ago (was it really that long?) and Mathius gulped at the sudden onset of memories of his mother, mixed with thoughts of Darcy. If only she could be there to see Darcy, they would be great friends. Quickly, he hid the bottle of champagne and straightened the pillows of the white chairs, making sure the love seat look particularly comfortable. There was no way that he would be sitting on his own here. He was ready. Now the thoughts came pouring into his ready mind. Thoughts of Darcy, of her beauty, cuteness, and everything else that distinguished her as a person, as Mathius’s Sunshine. His heart fluttered, his breathing quickened, and he knew that he was ready for the moment that was to come. He was ready for Darcy to be fully his, for an eternity together. 'It's amazing how three months can pass by without a second glance. Mathius and I have been doing fantastic regarding our relationship and our dates. I remember from the third date where I painted all over his face and he didn't even care. The way he bear hugged me, rubbed his paint-stained cheek on my clean ones- I knew from then on that... I shouldn't hug a freshly painted Mathius.' Darcy paused in her writing and looked up to check the time, nodding, then getting back into it. 'I really wish you could be here to meet him, Mom. You would love him and tease me about how I shouldn't lose him. I showed him pictures of you, he said I have my mother's eyes and smile. I'd like to think Dad would say the same. But, for now, I need to head out. Mathius and I have another date tonight. This is the god-knows-which-number date we've been on and I still get chills when I see him or think about him. I love you, please keep an eye on dad.' She signed the page and closed her pen inside, putting her journal up on the top shelf of her closet atop her paint-stained apron and the gift Mathius had given her in its original box. It was also paint-stained. But Mathius had sworn to her that it was a good thing for the brush to be used down.
Darcy leaned against the closet and bit nervously at her cheek and lip, her shaking fingers rubbing at her eyes slowly. She was more nervous now than she had ever been on a date with him- scratch that- she said that every time she got ready. Once she saw him, she'd go weak in the knees, fling her arms around him, and shower him with light kisses. That was how her cycle and her mind always went. Darcy's ability to control herself and her actions around Mathius were slim to none- but he was usually okay with that.
It was almost six and Darcy needed to get ready. She had gone out to get her hair curled for the night- it was a nice treat. She decided on pin-up girl curls that fit her blonde hair perfectly, along with her newer vintage dress she had set out for the evening. After a quick brushing of her teeth, she pulled her casual clothes off and slipped into her dress, with Bay's assistane to zip it up, and she looked for her white booties. She had so many pairs of booties that it really wasn't funny. But that was besides the point. Darcy was dressing up nicely for him tonight- she felt like getting dolled up because he chose somewhere she had never been before- a garden of some type.
Before she set out, Bay cooked for her and they talked about her nerves and jitters.
"Everything will be fine." Bay reassured her after twirling her pasta around on the plate. Darcy looked up to her and smiled gently.
"I really hope so. Do you think I'm over dressed? Do you think it's too much? I feel like I'm going too overboard- I shouldn't have had the whole day to get ready. I put too much thought-" Bay cut her off quickly, picking their clean playes up and placing them in the hot water to soak.
"Darcy, he's going to love you. You look perfect, like a doll." Bay placed a hand on hers, and Darcy sighed heavily. "Darcy, your mother would be so proud."
Darcy's eyes welled up but she fought the tears back, not wanting her eyeliner to smear. With a rubbing of her lips, she nodded finally. "Okay." Her eyebrows knitted together and she stood slowly. "Kiss Mouse goodnight for me. Don't feed him- he's on a diet. It's too late past his Dinner. I'll be home.. sometime." She raised her brows slowly and heaved a sigh. "Wish me luck."
The two friends hugged tightly and Darcy smoothed her dress down over her thighs, but it popped back up like a spring as she walked out of their flat. She got a few whistles but she shook them away with her hand and apparated to their date location.
It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. The water on both sides of a marble path lead to a pavilion with white love seats and adorable pillows. But the thing that caught her attention was Mathius. Her sweet baby bear, Mathius. His outfit was more formal than normal, and she felt better for dressing up. She brought her curls over her shoulder, hiding some of the freckles she got from her mother, and turned to walk up the path. She took it one step at a time, her lip between teeth again, afraid of falling in.
Once Darcy made it across, she clapped her hands in a victorious way and smoothed her dress down again, holding it there. She looked him over a few times and a wide grin spread across her lips. "You're so handsome." She breathed out uneasily, her heart pounding loud enough to hinder her hearing.

Sitting, waiting for Darcy was like waiting for something spectacular to happen. He had no idea whether she would be early, on time, or late and therefore her arrival would be a complete surprise. Of course, her surprise to him would be nothing compared to how much he was going to surprise her, she might just need catching! But the wait, oh, the wait. He sat on the white love seat with his legs stretched out in front of him, thinking about Darcy and nothing else. He was battling his nerves now, fighting the urge to open the bottle of champagne and just drinking it until his nerves disappeared, but that was not how Mathius did things, and he played with a loose thread on his black pants instead.
Still waiting (it had only been five minutes since he last checked) Mathius was now playing with the box in his pocket, turning it over and over in his hand. But he knew that if she arrived suddenly it wouldn’t be too good if she noticed the box before he got down on one knee, it might just ruin the whole romantic evening feel and leave him with all of the air gone from his body in disappointment. The shock factor would be everything, plus, he just loved to see her excitement and surprise. Her surprise was his win, he would do many things just to see her face as it had been many times before. So Mathius went back to playing with the loose thread instead.
As he waited his thoughts strayed once more to her good aspects, no, her amazing aspects. He thought of her adorable, beautiful, sunny grin, and her laughter, and everything about her. Everything. He was so preoccupied that he wouldn’t have noticed Darcy’s arrival if it weren’t for the familiar ‘crack’ that followed every apparition. As soon as he heard it he jumped up, smoothing down his shirt nervously and standing straight, grinning like a fool at Halloween.
Darcy looked amazing, no, she looked perfectly stunning, no, Darcy was absolutely dazzling! Of course, she was all of that even when in her pajamas after waking up in the morning (Mathius knew how dishevelled she looked in the early hours). This time was different in a way he had never known before, because this time he was expectant, and more excited and nervous than ever before. His eyes took in every single detail as he tensed in excitement.
As she began to pick her way across the stepping stones he took a deep, deep breath to let more oxygen flow to his flailing mind. And then, she was there, right in form of him, grinning and smoothing down her dress.
”You’re so handsome.”
Mathius stood for a few more moments, drinking in the sight of her, “Well, if you say it, it must be true,” he breathed back before adding, “but you are dazzling my Darcy.” And she was simply glowing in his eyes.
Now he moved, striding up to her and wrapping his arms around her, pressing his lips to hers in a happy hello of a kiss. Then, against her lips, he spoke, “Good evening Sunshine. Welcome to my favorite garden to hang around in.” He grinned, looking into her eyes and gaining confidence from the love he saw there. When the time felt right, he would do it, he would. Nothing, absolutely nothing would get in his way (except maybe some sort of disaster, but none were on the news so he felt pretty safe).
But REALLY! How perfectly glorious could a woman be? Certainly never anywhere near to Darcy's level of Mathius's perfection. Even her flaws were beautiful, they gave her character. Was he in love? Oh yes, and so much more deeply than ever before. This kind of love had not been seen in this garden for a very long time.

As soon as she made it across, she heard him take in a deep breath and she smiled modestly up at him. "Remember to breathe, dear." She teased, removing her hands from the bottom part of her dress to rest on her stomach, folded together.
“Well, if you say it, it must be true,” he breathed back before adding, “but you are dazzling my Darcy.”
Her blush started. Not even ten minutes into their encounter for today and she was already blushing. Darcy pulled her hand to her cheeks in disbelief and chuckled softly. "At this rate, I'll be your favorite shade of strawberry red by the end of the day." Her eyes closed for a moment, taking in a deep breath, and then opened to him striding towards her. She caught an audible breath and gasped as he wrapped his arms around her. But as soon as she realized what was happening, her lips were against his and her hands instinctively went to the back of his head where she entangled her fingers through his hair.
Grinning against her lips, Mathius welcomed her. “Good evening Sunshine. Welcome to my favorite garden to hang around in.” Darcy had to rip her eyes away from his to look around again, a smile on her lips. She nodded slowly at each beautiful thing then turned her head back to Mathius, her hands dropping from his head to his back as she held him.
"It's very beautiful, Mathius Bear." She giggled, her nose scrunching up somewhat. "I'm very glad to be here. Thank you for having me." She leaned up to him and ran her hand along his cheek, her chest heaving by now. She loved him so much. Everytime she was around him, she got chills. Darcy could be married to him with kids, see him everyday, and still get nervous and flustered around him. But that was all a good sign.
Letting her lips brush across his chin, then his lower lip, she closed her eyes for a moment and took in his scent. His lovely scent that she so longed to fall asleep to every night. Darcy had a jacket of his that, when she couldn't sleep, she'd pull over her and wrap herself in the fabric. It always rested her nerves. Darcy was completely in love with Mathius- there wasn't a doubt in the world about it.
Falling back to her heels, she smiled warmly, opening her eyes. "So how should we get this date started?" She chuckled, taking one of his hands in hers and twirling around his arm. "Maybe we could dance?" Her eyes were lit up like the sky around them.
Darcy's mind flashed back to nights where she would stand on her father's toes as he lifted her up and they danced around in the living room. Her Mom would always come in and ask to steal Darcy's dance, and Darcy would let her. She loved to sit back and watch her parents act off, it was always amusing.

Breathing... Ah yes, but around Darcy, what was something so trifling as breathing going to matter? He could live off of Darcy, breathing was nothing compared to the life his Sunshine gave him! If love was defined in riches, they would be the richest couple in London, and that was that.
Then Darcy was blushing, and Mathius smiled, there was one thing accomplished. “In that case I’m highly excited, your cheeks will be a lovely shade of deep pink by the end of tonight if I can help it.” Her smile would be pretty damn huge as well if everything went according to plan. Of course, there was always the issue of there being too much surprise and a falling Darcy might ruin a bit of the romantic feel, but then a again... It would give the night more of a Darcy and Mathius feel; something fun and adorable had to happen at least once for the evening to be complete.
Mathius grinned as Darcy commented on how beautiful the garden was, he agreed after all. Once he had come here to paint, trying to capture the beauty of the pavilion along with the various flowers – it hadn’t been his best work but he’d liked it. “You’re welcome dear. I’m so, so, SO glad you could come. I wouldn’t want to be all alone out here.” He grinned again, holding Darcy to him.
Her lips and hand on his face were so smooth and he brought his own had up to brush one stray hair out of her eyes, not that it would bother her (she probably hadn’t even notice) but it gave him an excuse to bring his palm to her forehead and hair. She seemed to be smelling him and he remembered finding out that one of his coats was missing, Darcy had admitted to taking it and he had laughed along, saying that he was fine with it as long as he could take something of hers. He had taken something of hers, though not physically, he had taken her heart, and that was payment enough for a lifetime.
And then Darcy was suggesting a dance and he thought why not? What a good way to lead to the perfect proposal. and it was, he could dance with her and twirl her to the seat where he would do what he had asked her there for. Sure, it wouldn’t be very long after her arriving but he wanted to know her answer as soon as possible, he had waited for this moment since he had realized his plan to marry her. “Alright, let us dance my Sunshine.” Mathius said, the dimming sky above them (it was nearly dark by now and there were lights beginning to glow around them.
With a swift movement Mathius had placed his hands on Darcy’s delicate waste, pulling her close and beginning to sway to the music of his heart beat and the breeze that flowed through the garden around them. He leaned in, momentarily pressing his lips to the top of her silky smooth head of hair. He loved her, and he would be telling himself (and her) that whenever possible.

“In that case I’m highly excited, your cheeks will be a lovely shade of deep pink by the end of tonight if I can help it.”
Darcy took no thought to what he meant behind his statement. She just twirled her hair around her finger and blushed deeper. He was so precious- so, so precious. She never took the time to really focus too much on him like this- they were always talking or laughing, and she was always turning her head away from him so he couldn't steal a kiss off of her pink stained cheeks. But now- now she had the chance to really look at him. Not only because of the quietness of the garden or the fact that it was a completely new case, but, she was seeing him in a new light.
“You’re welcome dear. I’m so, so, SO glad you could come. I wouldn’t want to be all alone out here.” He grinned again, holding Darcy to him. She had no refusal of his embrace. She loved being in his arms. The closer, the better. Her hands rested on his chest as she rested against him, looking up to his beautiful, deep eyes.
"Being alone out here wouldn't be too bad." She shrugged her shoulders and poked his jaw from where she was, a teasing smile across her lips. "It's beauty could keep someone company." Her hands rubbed against his upper chest and she leaned up to plant a soft, airy kiss on his neck.
“Alright, let us dance my Sunshine.” His voice reverberated against her rib cage and she was blushing once again. A small nod and she felt his hand on her waist, her body close to his. With a gasp, she wrapped her arms up and around his broad shoulders, her head nuzzling up under his chin.
"I couldn't have asked for a better night or a better person to spend it with. I love you so much." Her breathing was staggered as she swayed with him. She felt so perfect there, in his arms, a breeze encircled them and tugged them closer together, almost encouraging them to be together. She shuddered. "I should have dressed warmer." She chuckled lightly and squeezed his neck gently, pulling back to meet his eyes slowly. "But I know you keep me warm. So, there's no need anyways."
In that moment, Darcy was no longer her own person. She was one with Mathius- and she couldn't help her knees from getting weak being there in his presence. This was the man that she wanted to spend an eternity with, and live happily ever after with. He was the Prince to her fairy tale- they had established this in the park on their third date, and had made many new mini-stories within each talk and each date. Her mind drifted back to their first meeting and the way he met her- falling flat on her butt. She laughed absentmindedly and shook her head.
"I remember when you first came in the store and I had fallen off the counter." She lifted her hand to run through his hair, gently, letting it fall back against his neck. "I remember turning a deep shade of red and realizing that, if I had to work with you, you'd think I was a klutz." Her giggle came through lightly. "Well after God knows how many dates, I haven't proven myself to be anyone different than that blonde you helped off the floor." Her eyebrows furrowed in thought, "But I don't think you'd honestly ask for a better Darcy, my mess ups are what make us so goddamn perfect for each other." She shook her head and cleared her mind free, a small kiss laying on his lips, twirling around once more as they danced to no music. "Because you're so charming, in everything you do and say and paint- and, I am just, well, Darcy. We balance and feed off of each other, and that is why I love you and will continue to love you, so much, my Mathius."

Grinning, the love evident in his eyes, Mathius commented on Darcy’s deepening coloring, “If you blush any more you might just be made the poster girl for Valentine’s day.” He pecked her on the lips tenderly, “Don’t stop though, I love the look on you too much to let your blushing stop for long.” Her comment on beauty made him sigh at the pure perfection of it all, “Now you are just trying to kill me.” He said, smiling, “Saying something like that is bound to catch an artist’s heart, even if you’ve already got mine. You’re just reeling me in just that much more.” He held her in his arms as she snuggled in close for their silent dance. “I couldn’t have asked for a better woman, honestly, I couldn’t live without you if I tried.” He grinned now, thinking of the Queen song ‘Somebody to Love.’ Then the breeze came and once again the thought of fate came along in his mind. “I told you fate brought us together, now it is just trying to keep us together.” He whispered reverently into the now dark night sky. The sky may be dark, with the stars and moon the only light up above, but there was a circle of dim light around the pavilion and a slightly brighter one overhead. It was all so incredibly beautiful. “I will always, always keep you warm.” He added, hugging her close as they swayed, dancing to the breeze.” “I remember it differently,” he said softly, “I remember seeing a beautiful woman in need of help, laughing. I remember helping her and deciding that she was a lovely woman.” He switched now so that he was talking directly to her. “And you’ve proven to me how amazing you are, everything from your talents to your looks to your smiling, happy nature. Your mess ups keep me laughing, and my voice keeps you blushing. It all really works out in the end, I promise.” They were still swaying, Darcy was spinning and Mathius helped twirl her with a smile upon both of their faces. They were one and together, forever, connected by a bond so much stronger than anything, it was the Unbreakable Vow of love, without the negative points. Their love could not be broken. “I will always love you, my Sunshine.” Mathius said, suddenly spinning her gently around, allowing her to fall softly into the chair. “Don’t you forget it.” He leaned in, whispering in her ear just how much he loved her before going to one knee before her. In his heart and soul he felt that it was time, it was time for their fates to become more entwined than ever before, for this would make it official. “Fate brought us together, fate kept us together, but now I am taking what is rightfully mine, I am taking you.” Mathius smiled, feeling his chest constrict to an unimaginable tightness. Darcy sitting before him, looking so beautiful in the light made him just that much more certain of what he was about to do. He took Darcy’s hands in his own, clasping them between his. And then he began, citing a poem he had memorized just for his love. When I'm with you, eternity is a step away, my love continues to grow, with each passing day.
This treasure of love, I cherish within my soul, how much I love you... you'll never really know.
You bring a joy to my heart, I've never felt before, with each touch of your hand, I love you more and more.
Whenever we say goodbye, whenever we part, know I hold you dearly, deep inside my heart.
So these seven words, I pray you hold true, "Forever And Always, I Will Love You." Mathius looked up at the sky for a moment as if praying, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. “Darcy Isabelle Stokes, will you be my Sunshine for forever and always? Will you be mine as I am yours? I love you, too much to let you go, ever.’ he paused, gulping as his throat began to close due to the passion and love he felt brimming up inside of him, threatening to explode. From within his pocket he brought forth the little golden box, popping it open gently and holding it up to the circle of light that the one light above cast. The ring shone and seemed to give him the last bit of confidence he needed to finish. The seconds seemed to go by so, so slowly as he barely managed to say what he had been wanting to say for so very long, “Will you by any chance marry me?” his voice was soft, loving, tender, and it held all of the passion he had ever felt. This was it, this was their moment, waiting as the milliseconds ticked by for the answer he knew would come, hoped would come. And no matter what Darcy’s reaction was, he would continue to love her, forever and always as he had said.

The night crept in all too quickly. The night sky twinkled with a thousand bright stars as the deep sense of purple faded into a pitch black, the moon sitting high atop its rightful place within the open air. Darcy's heart was much like the moon, sitting high up in its own little place, surrounded by bits and pieces of Mathius' which cradled hers and held it secure. Her cheeks were hot as he complimented her on her blushing and how he'd features looked when she did. How ironic for her to blush at that exact time. With a gentle chuckle, she dismissed her blushing and returned to a warm smile. His lips found themselves on hers and she welcomed him, closing her eyes and letting her heartbeat quicken.
"Kill you?" She raised her eyebrows in thought and she shook that from her head. "Why, Mathius, I could never." Darcy's palms danced lightly across his back as he held her close to him, swaying ever so lovingly into the music of her bear's heartbeat. It was vibrant and strong, much like his personality- but it fluttered every so often when Darcy would rub her fingers across his cheek. She loved that she could make him do that. "I'll be extra careful with your heart, I promise. Maybe that was my intention all along, to reel you in around my finger." She glanced up into his eyes and grinned, her nose scrunching up. "Or maybe I'm just that deeply in love with you that everything I say is so much sweeter because you bring it out in me." Her eyebrow lifted, "I guess we'll never know." She winked playfully and snuggled back in closely.
As Mathius whispered and hugged her closer, Darcy's hands retracted to sit on his chest infront of her, folding together for a place to rest against his strong beating chest. "Fate has played matchmaker perfectly. I am so incredibly happy." She gripped the fabric of his shirt as he mentioned how he'd keep her warm. A whimper of happiness came forth from her lips but she couldn't bring herself to break his perfectly left silence. Instead, she pulled herself ever closer to the love of her life and ran her hands down lower on his chest, burrowing into the warmest of spots.
Mathius' voice promised her that everything would work out. Her heart busted open and she nodded feverishly against his swaying body. "Dear God, who knew I'd fall so helplessly in love with someone who loves everything about me, someone so perfect when I'm such a mess," her eyes welled with tears but she fought them back, feeling no reason to let them spill just yet. "You've taken the ultimate test on loving someone as complex as one of Picaso's masterpieces, with hidden meanings and profound stories behind a famous smile," she breathed heavily, "and you've passed with the highest amount of congratulations and the loudest applauds. Mathius, you've stolen my heart and I'm forever in yours. You don't even have to ask."
Within a small window of time, Darcy's giggle was released from her vocals and she was sitting now on a pure white loveseat, instinctively folding her ankles over one another, looking up to Mathius. He leaned into her ear and whispered how much he loved her, and she sucked in a breath. "I will love you to the moon and back, a million times over infinity." She cracked a hard smile and her heart stopped at an instant. Mathius was down on one knee and her hands were at her cheeks, her eyes hazing up with tears. She looked down to him and leaned in closer, her hand wrapping around his head gently, pulling his head in to kiss his forehead lightly.
Then her hands were in the clasps of his, and she was shaking. “Fate brought us together, fate kept us together, but now I am taking what is rightfully mine, I am taking you." Mathius smiled. Her chest heaved under her dress and she nodded at his words.
"I'm forever yours." She gasped through a whimper, her hands trembling in his.
Then her tears flowed, and by flowed, they poured like buckets over her eyelids. His voice was speaking out a poem, from sheer memory, and she was shaking harder in his hold. Darcy bit her lip roughly to try and hide her sobs, but to no avail. Her shoulders pulled in and she was anxious in anticipation as to what was next.
Mathius' eyes lifted to the sky and she thought he was praying. She closed her own eyes for a second and when she opened them, his voice rocked her soul back and fourth, soothing her nerves. “Darcy Isabelle Stokes, will you be my Sunshine for forever and always? Will you be mine as I am yours? I love you, too much to let you go, ever." From within his pocket he brought forth a little golden box, popping it open gently and holding it up to the circle of light that the one light above cast. “Will you by any chance marry me?”
Darcy couldn't move, her hands were shaking now against her mouth, his own hands showing the ring to her. She squeezed her hands together and slowly, she began to move fluidly. "Yes," she muttered softly, then again with the upmost confidence, "Yes! Yes! A million times yes! My answer is yes! Yes to everything!" Darcy leaned forward and wrapped her arms around Mathius, pulling back to take the box gently from his hands, a wide smile on her face. She held it in her lap, her jaw dropped. "Mathius, Mathius," she heaved a breath out and looked up to him, a heated blush on her cheeks, but she couldnt say anything, "Mathius!" She squealed, pulling her hands up and wrapping them around him feverishly, her lips meeting his in a thousand small pecks, tugging on his neck with her arms as if to pull him up to the sofa beside her.
Again, tears started pouring. "Mathius, dear God," she breathed out stopping her kisses for a moment, "I'm so glad I found you, I'm so glad the world gifted me with a boy like you to be in my life forever. I must have done something right to deserve you- it's like a miracle. And from this moment on, nothing can or will get any better than this. Nothing will ruin this. I know I mess up and I know I'll make messes, but I'll love you with everything I have in me. I'll love you with all the passion you have for painting and making me blush." She breathed heavily and wrapped her arms around his chest, her eyes damp with the tears that streamed. Darcy sat up and kissed passionately at him, trailing her kisses down the side of his neck too. "Mathius, my hopes and dreams wouldn't be any happier to be tied down with anyone else. Thank you for coming to my tower, Prince." She breathed into his neck with a sob, her head burrowing against him. She was shaking still, of course, but she was trying to calm down.

Nights such as these were normally beautiful to Mathius’s eyes, but with Darcy there, everything just seemed that much more brilliant. He was nearly blinded by the sights surrounding Darcy and him, and then there was Darcy herself. Even in the semi-darkness she was stunning, literally. Every time he looked into her eyes he was stunned and awed, and incredibly in love.
“Good.” Mathius murmured into Darcy’s ear as he leaned down to kiss her cheek, his heart pumping so strong and loud that he felt he could hear it roaring in his ears, every pump setting a rhythm in which to dance to. Not that their dancing was all that spectacular, it was more of a romantic, swaying, breezy hug. “And if you aren’t careful, my heart might just give out from all the stress you are putting on it just by being here.” He smiled then, showing that he was just being playful, “Alright, so maybe you’re actually keeping me alive just that much longer by being here, but you have actually got me wrapped around you little finger. Ask and I will obey m’lady.” He spun her again, laughing lightly into the romantic feeling night air. Darcy was adorable and beautiful at the same time when her nose scrunched up like as she smiled, “Everything you say makes me sigh in happiness Darcy, so keep on talking.”
The warmth that Mathius felt in his chest wasn’t just because of Darcy’s burrowing so close, it was also due to the undeniable heat of love that was keeping his body warm. The night air had a bit of a chill to it, and his shirt was minimally warm. Yet, somehow, he was warmer than he had been in a very long time, consumed as he was in thoughts of his Darcy. “I find no difficulty in loving you Darcy, don’t you ever forget that. Know always that my heart is yours and it had absolutely no issues trying to love the masterpiece I call Sunshine.” With that his mind stored an idea away of a future painting, of the sun shining in a gloriously bright sky, staining the fields below in gold. He would later come to think of it as his best piece, giving it to Darcy as a wedding present and naming it ‘Sunshine,’ wanting her to remember him always.
”Mathius, you've stolen my heart and I'm forever in yours. You don't even have to ask.”
Mathius smiled gently, thinking Oh but I do, because I need to hear you say yes. to himself as he spun his soon to be fiancé into the chair. His whisper of love was repeated, with different wording, and the smile grew, heart thumping. She had to say yes, for if she didn’t, his heart would fail; maybe not physically, but most certainly it would fail metaphorically, a death to painful to even imagine.
Darcy was shaking, and Mathius was breathing, breathing as if the world were made of pure oxygen and there was never the need to be breathless, his lungs expanding each deep, slow breath. Then, not only was she shaking, but she was crying, sobbing, and Mathius had to finish his poem, he had to ask the question to know the answer. He couldn’t stop, not even to comfort the sobbing lady before him.
Mathius asked, and Darcy answered, fully becoming HIS Darcy, for now and forever. And Mathius was being kissed and hugged, her tears dripping on his face where his eyes glistened with tears that had yet to be shed. “You think you’re glad? My heart is beating as it has never beat before, my mind is racing as it has never raced before. I am the happiest I have ever been, and here we are, crying, as the miracle continues.” He stopped to take a much needed breath before continuing, “As I said before, you mess up and I make you blush and everyone is happy in the end. Everything happens in this world the way fate wants it too, needing but a helping hand from those it pushes in the right direction. This is my helping hand, bringing us closer to our very own personal destiny, to be together as one.” There were no more words to be said for a while as Mathius was virtually incapable of speaking, overcome as he was by Darcy and the event that had just taken place, that was still taking place. The world was a brighter place whenever Darcy was near.
But he wasn’t finished with her just yet.
Slowly, reverently, Mathius was taking the ring from its golden box where it sat in Darcy’s lap. Two fingers held the shining symbol of union and his left hand took a hold of Darcy’s smaller, gentler one. Smiling while his wet eyelashes shimmered, he slid the ring to where it rightfully belonged, with Darcy.
It was done, they were officially engaged, and good lord it felt absolutely glorious.

“You think you’re glad? My heart is beating as it has never beat before, my mind is racing as it has never raced before. I am the happiest I have ever been, and here we are, crying, as the miracle continues.” He stopped to take a much needed breath before continuing. Darcy rested her arms around him, squeezing him to her lightly, burying into her home. Her home for the rest of her life. “As I said before, you mess up and I make you blush and everyone is happy in the end. Everything happens in this world the way fate wants it too, needing but a helping hand from those it pushes in the right direction. This is my helping hand, bringing us closer to our very own personal destiny, to be together as one.”Darcy's hand found its way back into Mathius' as he spoke. She pulled back from their embrace and her hands clenched his, biting her lip, tears still streaming down her face. She freed one hand to wipe her eye, examining the makeup on her fingers. With a laugh, she shook her head, squeezing her hand that he still held. "You made my makeup run," she glared at him playfully, "I tried so hard to look beautiful as ever for you tonight and you made it run like it's nothing." She grinned and leaned in to kiss his cheek, then his lips. "But I am so glad that you did. You make me so happy." She breathed out, her chest heaving. "I've never cried so hard in my life, and I feel like I probably will if you get any sweeter tonight."Mathius' hand was taking the ring from the box before she knew it, and her hand was lifted as he slipped it on. It fit perfectly, naturally, on her finger. Her eyes shifted to his quickly and she scrunched up her nose, shaking her head. "I lied- this is the hardest I've cried." She sobbed through happy, quick breaths, trying to fan herself and calm down. Darcy pulled her hand out to look at the ring, and her other hand went to her mouth to cover the cries still escaping. "Mathius- I love you so much." She lunged forwards, her hands wrapping around his neck as she stood up with him, beginning to sway with him life before. "I hope you know Disney, from your childhood, or else this'll sound like a crazy song I made up." She started, smiling up at him. "My Dad used to sing this to me at night, holding my Mom's hand." Darcy grabbed his hands in hers and kissed them sweetly, her eyes shutting as she began to sing. "Tale as old as time, Tune as old as song. Bittersweet and strange, Finding you can change, Learning you were wrong. Certain as the sun, Rising in the east. Tale as old as time, Song as old as rhyme, Beauty and the Beast." "Not that you are the beast," she chuckled, "but that song has always been my favorite." Her hands tightened in his and she wrapped herself around him again, her head under his chin now. "There's nothing I would change about this moment." She sighed happily. But a thought occurred to her and she pulled back in a hurry. Darcy pulled him to the stepping stones and began to cross. "Bay!" She laughed, "we have to go tell Bay!" She looked over her shoulder and smiled, biting her lip. "She's going to be so surprised!"
