Chyna pulled the hair tie out, letting her long black waves run down her sides and back, easing out onto the lawn of the School. Usually, the Whomping Willow tried to smack her a few times on days like these, but its attitude seemed pretty mellow for her particularly, today. She pulled her knees up to her chest and studied the tree, shaking her head slowly. She didn't understand it- but who really did? Once she felt like the thing was lifeless and still, she yawned softly and closed her eyes for a brief moment.
That was a very terrible idea. An echoing crash thundered in front of her, and her eyes shot open as the branches rooted into the ground almost, smashing against the are less than a few inches from her ballet flats. Chyna pushed back with her heels and crawled away, her breaths becoming faster and then slower once she calmed down. "Damn thing," she hissed under her breath, "you could have taken my leg off." And as if the pillar of wood and leaves heard her, it mimicked its thrashing again, but Chyna rested there this time, un-startled by it.
The tree slunk back into its lifeless stage and Chyna resumed her comfortable position, looking around her for a moment, making sure nobody was there, before she pulled out her wand and started levitating rocks, throwing them through breaks in the tree's branches. She had made this a little game- the tree and her had a few memories together- once it knocked her out as she was traveling down the hill, and she had to be taken to the healing wing for examination. The personality of their characters clashed majorly- they were both stubborn and hard-headed.
Once she got tired of using her wand, she put it up and physically picked the rocks up now, chucking them through its branches with skill. Irritated, one of the arm-like branches reached out and spiked it down to the ground. Chyna laughed quietly before continuing, unaware that someone could easily be around her. Sometimes, she really was oblivious.

When the sun was particularly bright and the breeze warmer than usual for a late winter’s day, Aeric liked to go for a stroll through the grounds. He would just wander around the grounds, making a good couple hours out of it and coming back nice and happy. Sometimes, he jogged for a while, as he was doing now, just to keep his lazy self from getting unfit.
Aeric usually spent his times alone outside, but when he was with friends he liked to just stay with them in the common room, or wherever they were at that time. Usually he found himself completely on his own out in the grounds, but this time he heard something or somebody ahead of him where the Whomping Willow stood. The damned thing was always up to no good, sometimes catching a couple first years unawares and Aeric felt a sharp flash of worry, hopefully none of the children were over there playing with metaphorical fire.
Sprinting around the corner Aeric found himself staring at a young woman, he believed that she was one of the fifth or sixth year Slytherins. Aeric had seen her around sometimes, but never more than a glimpse. They were in different years, and different houses after all.
Nonetheless, Aeric felt that it would be rude to stare at her from behind, or even to just walk away without saying hi; no matter that he was a Gryffindor, and she a Slytherin. Of course, the old rivalry ran strong in his blood, but he was willing to test her personality before doing anything rash, such as running away or making a snide remark (as his mouth so dearly wanted to do).
Instead, the boy with the icy blue eyes decided on something different to say instead, “Hello?” he called from a few meters behind the girl who was throwing rocks at the Whomping Willow, clearly making the mindless tree angry enough to attempt to hit her with its huge branches.
She seemed to be enjoying herself and Aeric stepped a bit closer, brushing some hair out of his eyes so as not to be caught unawares by the wayward tree. Hopefully the Slytherin girl – what was her name? – wouldn’t be too angry or sly as most of her house tended to be at his standing near, potentially ruining any privacy or alone time that she might have wanted. People didn’t come out to the Whomping Willow to be social.

A few more rocks narrowly missed smacking Chyna upside the head as the tree became irritated again. Well, more irritated than its whole species was. Her legs stretched out and she sighed, letting the tree be alone for now. As she turned to look to her left, a voice called out behind her.
“Hello?”
Her bright, big brown eyes darted to her side, having to shift a bit to see the body that owned the voice. She turned on her bum to the left, sitting horizontal infront of him now. She studied his features for a quick second before answering back quietly. "Hello." She coughed, pulling her knees under her and sitting up proper, like she was strictly made to when she was younger. It was something in their Asian culture that her parents enforced. She smoothed out her blouse and studied him some more. His name started with an A. It escaped her though. She pulled herself up with no problem at all, gracefully, and shook the blades of grass from her shirt and leggings.
"It's a nice day out," she said, watching his reaction carefully. He was a Gryffindor, she knew that much, and she wasn't sure whether he had already sorted her out to be a bad person because of her house. Truth be told, she was a Slytherin because she was manipulative and sly, and also sneaky- not because she was just plain mean. She had no reason to be. "Decided to take a run, I see?" She arched an eyebrow towards him, a small smile threatening the corners of her mouth to twitch up. Chyna was super friendly, something other houses didn't associate with Slytherin.
Once she realized she hadn't introduced herself, she shook her head out, freeing her brain metaphorically of all the garbage and looked back to him. "I'm Chyna." She said quietly, not sure whether to extend her hand or not- she never was good at associating with other houses. Every time she would try and socialize, its like she was put automatically into this category of awful people. Discrimination ran rampant in the School now, even more so after Death Eaters took over.

Seeing the rocks fly Aeric winced a bit, vivid images of rocks hitting bodies in his head. Not nice... He heard the Slytherin girl respond to his greeting with a hello and his eyes darted back to where she had moved to a more upright sitting position. Her stocking must have been getting incredibly grassy, shifting around on the dry grass where she was.
She spoke again and Aeric listened as she mentioned the weather. His icy eyes glanced up, squinting, into the bright blue sky. “Indeed it is.” He confirmed with a bit of a smile before turning his eyes back towards the girl, who was now standing and brushing herself off. “I love days like these.” He commented before replying to her statement, “Yes, there is no better time to run then now.” He wasn’t going to mention that he had only sprinted like that because he had thought children might be in danger, it was a stupid thing to say and could easily be taken as boasting. Gryffindor’s weren’t known for their arrogant, vain and boastful natures for nothing. Aeric was no exeption there, but when it came to Slytherins, he really didn’t want to get into anything; especially on a day where the sun is shining and the breeze is warm.
It was far too nice out to be brash.
“Nice to meet you Chyna.” And it was, she didn’t seem like other Slytherins that he met, her introduction seemed genuine, not sarcastic or mean as he would have expected the stereotypical Slytherin to act. Gryffindor’s had nearly as bad of a reputation for being hasty and brazen and the Slytherin/Gryffindor rivalry was notoriously well-known. It was nice to meet a girl outside of the social atmosphere where they might both be forced to act a certain way around one another. Sometimes isolation is a good thing.

“I love days like these.” He commented before replying to her statement, “Yes, there is no better time to run then now.”
She let her smile win, her teeth bared now. "I love them too." She said, letting her voice grow a little in volume since it was usually really quiet. Looking up to the sun, she closed her eyes, taking in the vibrant rays it offered her skin. She looked back to the boy, her eyes now a light blue with little yellow flakes inside. She was a Metamorphmagus, so when she was around, she usually changed her eyes to reflect the environment. It was just a little game with her, like many things were.
"Well, I am more of a walker, but I imagine the breeze is amazing when running." She nodded with a small smile, looking around for a moment. There really was nobody else around. Just a Slytherin and a Gryffindor. It wasn't something you saw everyday.
“Nice to meet you Chyna.”
She chuckled lightly at his words, nodding. "It's nice to meet you, too..." Her voice trailed off, unsure of his name still. 'A' something. She couldn't get it out of her. Aeric? Yes! That was his name. "Aeric." She finished, a laugh threatening to emit. "Sorry, your name escaped me momentarily." She admitted with a slight shrug of her shoulders. "I don't know many names, actually. But I remember yours."
After a moment of quiet, letting the sounds of Hogwarts settle in, she cleared her throat. "So, do you always run around here?" She quizzed, turning her head to look at the tree who was dangerously still, then back to the boy. "I mean, with my luck, that bloody thing would trip me." She joked lightly. "I have too many stories from my third year in particular where, when I first came to see it, the thing knocked me unconscious." Her smile faded for a moment, remembering waking up in the healing wing scared for her dear life. She had forgotten pretty much everything for that day, but it all came back to her. "I'm sure I just got too close, but, that beast has a mind and brain of its own, I swear."
Since then, the tree and her had become.. friends. She would visit it most days, studying it, and teasing it to see its reactions to different things. Most people assumed she was just looking for trouble, which in a small case, she was.

"I love them too."
Aeric smiled, it was good to know that at least one Slytherin appreciated the same things he did. “Yeah, sometimes it’s nice to just have a warm day at the end of a long winter, don’t you think?” He too sat down, looking up at the bright sky. There were wisps of clouds, the type you only saw on a nice spring day. “Winters almost over.” He stated, grinning as the breeze ruffled his and Chyna’s hair.
"Well, I am more of a walker, but I imagine the breeze is amazing when running."
Nodding with a laugh, Aeric replied, “Yes, yes it is actually.” He thought of the nice jogs that he sometimes did, but on days like these they turned out to be so relaxing! Sometimes, when school and friends got to be too much, he would go outside and walk or jog. He looked over at the Slytherin momentarily and started, her eyes had changed and he grinned now. “Metamophagus?” he asked, already knowing the answer.
"Sorry, your name escaped me momentarily. I don't know many names, actually. But I remember yours."
Aeric smiled sheepishly, “Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself... It is good that you remember me though.” He shrugged, leaning back, “Now I feel bad that I didn’t remember your name!” he exclaimed with a frown. She remembered his name, but he didn’t remember hers; how mean of him was that? He apologized again, looking rather sheepish.
“I like to run, but I don’t usually run around here. The Whomping Willow is stopping me from that. This is the first time I’ve actually come this way. I like avoid that wild tree if I can.”
"I have too many stories from my third year in particular where, when I first came to see it, the thing knocked me unconscious."
“Unconscious???” Aeric glanced over at the gigantic, violent plant. “Well, that settles it. This will most certainly not be part of my regular rout.”

“Winters almost over.” He stated, grinning as the breeze ruffled his and Chyna’s hair. Chyna smiled warmly to him and caught her hair as it blew into their faces. She moved to sit across from Aeric, not too far and not too close either. She was wary of him still, slightly, just like he probably was of her.
"Indeed it is, I can't wait for Spring!" She giggled gently and laid back on her palms, looking over to him. "I think the only thing I hate about Spring is the allergies. They are a pain."
Nodding with a laugh, Aeric replied, “Yes, yes it is actually.” When he noticed her eyes, she nodded right as he posed his question. “Metamophagus?”
Chyna grinned over to him and her eyes shifted again, matching his. "I think it's funny to trick people when they first meet me." She chuckled and looked over her shoulder at the tree, seemingly waking up a bit. "I remember in class, I used to change my hair color and length every so often- the professor thought he had lost his marbles." She scrunched her nose up, still finding the incident funny. She leaned towards Aeric, "Though I never suspected him to have any in the first place."
“Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself... It is good that you remember me though.” He shrugged, leaning back, “Now I feel bad that I didn’t remember your name!” he exclaimed with a frown.
Her hand raised to blow it off. "It's nothing." She stopped him, a smile on her face. "Most people don't. It's funny though. Since I am Asian, you'd think it'd be easier to remember." Her hands were getting sore so she leaned back up to sit up straight, her eyes reverting back to normal.
“I like to run, but I don’t usually run around here. The Whomping Willow is stopping me from that. This is the first time I’ve actually come this way. I like avoid that wild tree if I can.”
Her eyebrows lifted and she snorted lightly. "It's pretty heartless, I can agree with you on the fact that it's wild. But it can be sweet." She shrugged. "I came out here one night after having a bad fight with a friend and it left me alone, instead, it kind of swayed, soothing almost." She whispered the next words. "I don't think it wants people to know it has a heart." Almost on que, the tree smacked its branches down lightly in protest. She didn't even flinch. Her grin emerged and she shrugged.
“Unconscious???” Aeric glanced over at the gigantic, violent plant. “Well, that settles it. This will most certainly not be part of my regular rout.”
Chyna laughed quietly and she nodded. "Yea, flat out cold." He spoke about his running route and she chuckled a bit harder. "I don't blame you. Not many people come this way anymore. I like to give it company- it's too interesting to leave alone."
