Iven snuggled further into his beige sweater as he pulled his knees to his chest, hugging them against himself tightly. It wasn't cold, but the seventh year felt really sick and questionable that morning when he woke up. His stomach did another flip internally, twisting into a knot. He grabbed at his side and shook his head. It was nothing. He wasn't getting sick at all. Releasing his fangs from his gums, he chewed on his thick sweater's arms, feeling uneasy.
The Saint Patty's Day Festival was tonight and a few of his friends would be getting hammered in the Slytherin dorms. He figured if he didn't feel any better, he would be sleeping through the festivities, and probably not even heading to the celebration. Running his hands through his messy curls, he buried his head between his knees and ran his tongue across the points of his fangs before pulling them back in.
Cordelia was probably going to look so pretty, not that she didn't everyday. The inner troubles became revealed at that moment, from the graveyard depths of his emotions, and he uttered a small obliviate spell, shaking his head as if that helped. Cordelia wasn't in the least bit his, but he was heels over head in love with her and he could do nothing about it. Her planned marriage to some guy in Durmstrang left him helpless. She didn't know how he really felt, or, she just refused to give him the benefit of the doubt. Iven couldn't comprehend which one of the two it was at different points.
The churning started again, his stomach hurling up into his throat as a small breeze landed in the atmosphere. Looking up, his sensitive smell and hearing picked up a new smell that was closer than it should be at a respectable distance. Someone was coming towards him. A snap of a twig, and Iven's bright green-brown eyes were locked on the figure behind him, seeing the legs first then traveling north to meet their eyes.
"Cordelia." He said breathlessly.

Cordelia watched the water ripple violently away from the surface disturbance. She sighed and chunk'ed another rock angrily into the lake. Out towards the center of the lake was the Giant Squid. Cordelia was not a fan, and the feeling was mutual. Say what you would about the marine animal, but that thing was smart. After being fed up with Cordelia's disruption of its waters, the squid took a larger rock onto its suckers and chunk it at Cordelia.
The Slytherin sidestepped the rock easily. She glared out into the lake, taking the squids actions as a challenge. She raised her wand, yelling "Bombarda" at a spot in the water between herself and the Squid. She watched as the water exploded with force, and cast a quick "Protego" to shield herself from the droplets. With its tentacles, the squid slapped at the water with all its force.
Cordelia Harrington stuck her tongue out at the beast and turned on her heels, leaving the sea monster behind. Obviously, Cordelia was not in a very good mood. She had already had to listen to numerous girls talk about their dates to the Celebration. Cordelia wasn't allowed one. She was arranged to be married. And he was a t Durmstrang. And, though she refused to admit it to herself, she was in love with her best friend Ivan Jenker. Hopelessly in love and helpless to do anything about it.
The Slytherin sighed as she came over a hill, but stopped when something caught her eye. A beige figure huddled together. She recognized it immediately, as it was one of Ivan's favorite sweater's. Cordelia smiled and her pace quickened. Perhaps he could help her. A cold breeze his, and suddenly she wished she had worn something over her white tube top and scarf. Her loosely fallen hair and black flowy skirt followed the wind and she stopped with a slight shiver before grinning, the cold actually felt pretty good, and continuing on.
Cordelia's foot caught a branch and it snapped in anger. Cordelia didn't care, she had her eyes set on her best friend. It wasn't like she was trying to sneak up on him. That would be impossible anyways. He was a half Vampyre and had probably known of her presence before she had known of his.
Her smile only widened when Ivan turned around to her, his eyes finally meeting hers. "Cordelia." He said breathlessly. Cordelia grinned and ignored the quickening pace of her heart- contributing it to the walk she had taken. And the palms of her hands were obviously sweaty because the cold was becoming to much and it was a cold sweat. She ran her hands down her thighs to dry them casually.
The girl plopped down beside Ivan, wrapping her arms around his sweatered arm for warmth and burrowing her head into his shoulder as she had done so many times before.
"There's my favorite man in all the lands." She laughed. Her statement was true. Perhaps more so then she would acknowledge to herself. However, she knew the implications on a basic level. The only extremely important men in Cordelia's life was her twin brother Caesar and her best friend Ivan. She also cared about her other friend Theo. But Ivan still held the top spot for favorite.
"So I have a slight problem." She turned her large brown eyes up to look at him. "I don't want to go to the Celebration tonight alone." She whispered a little embarrassed. She felt like she should be stronger then that, but she was allowed to have weaknesses...right? "I was hoping since you were my best friend, you could escort me." She asked hesitantly. "I mean, if you already have a date then I completely understand." She said quickly.
Cordelia pulled her hands back into her lap, rubbing them together for friction and pulling her knees up to her. She looked over at her friend, and that's when she noticed he seemed off. "Ivan hun, you look pale." The back of her hand flew up to Ivan's forehead. "Dammit, my hands are too cold to tell." She turned his head towards her and pressed her cheek to the top of his forehead, like her nursemaid used to do to her and her brother when she wanted to check for a fever quickly. Now, she could tell that his forehead was hot.
"Ivan, you are burning up!" She held his cheeks in her hands. Her best friend looked miserable. Cordelia wanted nothing more then to curl up with him in a nice big blanket and talk until the sun came up next year, and until he felt better. She shook that thought from her head, not wanting to suffer the emotional repercussion later from allowing it to enter her mind.
"You look miserable." Cordelia said softly.

The closer Cordelia got, the hotter his head became. Gulping, he moved over so she could sit on his warm spot, and smiled at her. Feeling her burrow into him, he sighed and closed his eyes tightly. He was only hurting himself by allowing himself to be so close, but, he couldn't help it. Iven was so in love with her, and he couldn't change that for the world, all its planets, and all its galaxies.
"There's my favorite man in all the lands."
Iven's wide smile appeared and he turned towards her to brush her hair out of her face gently with his free hand. "Here's my top lady in all the planet." He laid his cheek on her head as she was laid into him, letting the moment sink in. If only it could always be like this.
"So I have a slight problem."
Iven's heart began to pound, and he turned to look at her. Cordelia turned her large brown eyes up to look at him. "I don't want to go to the Celebration tonight alone."
His smile grew a bit, if possible, and he nodded slowly. "I'm best at fixing problems- yours in particular." He snickered softly, tapping his chin with his free hand, then looking out across the lawns. "I bet you could find someone to go with you." He shrugged, letting his hazel eyes return to hers within a second or two. Merlin, she was beautiful.
"I was hoping since you were my best friend, you could escort me." She asked hesitantly. "I mean, if you already have a date then I completely understand."
With that, his smile was stretched so far, his fangs even popping out to show, also. He beamed at the thought of escorting Cordelia to the dance- but the moment was caught off guard as his chest heaved with a slight pain. He groaned quietly and recovered. "I am your best friend, so I could- no, I must- take you to that celebration." Iven grinned a little to her, and nodded. "I don't have a date. Jarrod and the guys were planning to get drunk all night instead, in the dorms, I was going to stay there and sleep, but I don't think I would want to if it meant not being able to see how beautiful you look tonight." But as she looked up at him, her face morphed into something of concern. He shook his head in distrust, but before he could caution her, she was checking his temperature.
"Iven hun, you look pale." The back of her hand flew up to Ivan's forehead. "Dammit, my hands are too cold to tell."
Iven grumbled under his breath. "I'm fine." But it wasn't helpful. She placed her cheek to his forehead and he had the perfect access to her neck. He groaned, wanting so much just to kiss her neck, down to her collarbone, and wrap her up in his arms and keep her warm.
"Iven, you are burning up! You look miserable."
He shook his head. "It's just a phase. I'll be better by tonight." He said in a confident way. But inside he was worried, helpless. Iven didn't honestly know why he was sick, so, the chances of him being better were slim to none. The nurse should have a look at him, but Iven hated looking helpless. Even though around Cordelia, he always did. Her softness melted through his confidence and he sighed, closing his eyes. Leaning over to her, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling the one she was burrowed into, so she was leaning on his chest. He buried his face in her hair and kissed her head. "I'll be fine. I promise."

Iven swept the hair from her face and Cordelia could feel her bodies betrayal as goosebumps marked the spot where his hand brushed across her face, and she leaned into his touch, finding comfort in his movements. Cordelia closed her eyes to drink in the moment. 'Damn my parents.' If she wasn't an engaged Pure Blood, she would be with Ivan- in every sense of the word would she be with him. They were obviously made for each other.
"Here's my top lady in all the planet." Iven laid his cheek on her head as she was laid into him. A wave of achiness flooded her heart to the point she had to put one of her friends to it. The feeling was so weird for her, and only happened during these sweet moments when she was with Ivan. It was as if her body were trying to tell her something- something that it had to go to extreme measures to make her see- and something that she still refused to admit to herself.
Iven smile grew a bit, if possible, and he nodded slowly. "I'm best at fixing problems- yours in particular." Cordelia blushed. It was true. He was always there to help her when she needed it. She felt bad about always going to him when she needed to talk, but he never seemed to mind. Still, she muttered a s soft, "Sorry about that."
"I bet you could find someone to go with you." Iven shrugged. Cordelia looked down thinking that he probably wouldn't want to go with her anyways.
"But I don't want to go with anyone else." She muttered so lowly that no human would be able to hear it- forgetting that she wasn't in presence of a mere human.
With that, Iven's smile was stretched so far, his fangs even popping out to show. Cordelia grinned. "So cool." She said softly, reaching a finger out to run it across his tooth's surface. She got the chills. "Can't even imagine..."
"I am your best friend, so I could- no, I must- take you to that celebration." Iven grinned a little to her, and nodded.
Cordelia laughed and threw her arms around her best friend. "You are amazing, have I ever told you that?" She silently cursed her parents even more.
"I don't have a date. Jarrod and the guys were planning to get drunk all night instead, in the dorms, I was going to stay there and sleep, but I don't think I would want to if it meant not being able to see how beautiful you look tonight."
"Stupid boys." She muttered, shaking her head. "If they came to the Celebration they would still get drunk." Her face took on a very suspicious one. "Chyna and I are going to spike the drink." She said in a higher pitched voice that matched her excitement. "I talked to him about getting me a specific potion. I swear to Merlin it's the only thing he's good for." She huffed her frustrations.
Iven grumbled under his breath. "I'm fine."
'That you are my adorable little friend.' She blushed at her immediate thoughts. Deep down, Cordelia knew how perfect the two were together. She just didn't want to bare the heartache of having it in the forefront of her mind all the time. Helpless.
He shook his head. "It's just a phase. I'll be better by tonight."
"Phase?" Cordelia smirked, "Iven...Love, did you forget you were part Vampyre?" She snickered and looked up at him, "The sun isn't always good for your system. Maybe we should go inside." She suggested. Nothing was more important to her then Iven and her brother's safety. Leaning over to her, Iven wrapped his arms around Cordelia, pulling the one she was burrowed into, so she was leaning on his chest. Cordelia sighed in contempt, rubbing her cheek against his soft sweater. Another ache constricted her heart and she squeezed her eyes shut, hoping it would end soon.
'So much...' She thought to herself, regarding how much she loved the man who held her close. She felt pressure behind her eyes and a few tears broke the barrier- all of which represented the strength of her love and the pain she felt for not being able to act on it. Cordelie tortured herself on a daily basis by being around Iven.
Iven buried his face in her hair and kissed her head. "I'll be fine. I promise." The female Slytherin could deny it no more. She breathed in a shaky breath and wrinkled her nose left and right in hopes of relieving the pressure behind her eyes. Cordelia didn't want the pain. But she- she loved Iven, so she would suffer. She wrapped her arms around his chest and squeezed him to her tight. "Thank you, for everything." She whispered, sad that what should be- would most likely never be.

"But I don't want to go with anyone else."
Iven's eyes darted to her and he smiled to himself- still feeling upset and quite sick. "I know you don't." He reassured her with a small squeeze to her sides, his voice just as low as hers, knowing she'd hear him.
"So cool." She said softly, reaching a finger out to run it across his tooth's surface. "Can't even imagine..."
His heart fluttered at her words and motion, her gentle finger rubbing across his fang. He closed his mouth on her finger gently, grinning towards her. I love you. His eyes closed momentarily and he pulled away, a smile on his face but an exhausted depth in his green eyes. "You always say that." He chuckled, sighing shortly after.
"You are amazing, have I ever told you that?"
Again with the smiling. He nodded, a vague sense of cockiness around him. "Quite a few times, actually." His smirk emerged through his pains and he leaned on her, pushing her lightly, playfully.
"Phase?" Cordelia smirked, "Iven...Love, did you forget you were part Vampyre?" She snickered and looked up at him, "The sun isn't always good for your system. Maybe we should go inside."
"Phase." He nodded, refusing to accept that the sun was causing so many pains in him. "A vampire?" He asked, a fake shock over his face. "What is that? I am a vampire?" Iven giggled a little, shaking his head. "No, I am fine out here." He protested, his stubborn hardheadedness shining through. Truth be told, he didn't want to move from his spot with Cordelia in his arms. She was far too cozy and he was far too comfy with their current state.
She wrapped her arms around his chest and squeezed him to her tight. "Thank you, for everything."
Iven's heart was breaking slowly. Again. It had been cracked and had busted so many times- this wasn't the first. Knowing how perfect they were and how much she meant to him, it slowly was killing him. The time they spent together would never be enough. The seconds and minutes and hours and days that they laughed, hugged, cuddled, or even just walked together- it didn't add up to nearly enough. The rest of his life would be disappointing. He knew his soul belonged to her and she would always hold his heart on her fragile, delicate hands. And Iven could do nothing, nor did he want to do anything, to take it back.
"There's no thanks needed." He said simply, burying further into her, his stomach doing flips in his body. He felt terrible, but he wasn't moving from her arms. Not anytime soon.
About the celebration tonight, he thought again at it. "So you and I at the party?" He smiled down to her, leaning down to look into her eyes. "And then you and Chyna are going to spike the punch?" With a shake of his head and a grin, he rested his forehead on her head. "That's why I- why I love you." He stumbled over his words and a deep blush came over his cheeks.

"Phase. A vampire?" He asked, a fake shock over his face.
Cordelia giggled. "Yes, a vampyre! A lovable and cuddly vampyre." Her eyes gleamed in delight when they made eye contact with his own.
"What is that?
"A vampyre is a terrifying creature he feeds on the blood of the innocent, or not so innocent." She winked at him, referring to the times when she herself had made "donations" of sorts to her best friend. That was the best way to describe her handling of his "emergency" situations. The fact was- she cared about him. And warmed her heart significantly to know that the nutrients in her blood flowed through Ivens own, keeping him strong and stable. It made her happy to do, and it was the least she could do to repay him for all the things he had done with her. Having part of her flowing in him was just an added bonus.
"I am a vampire?" Iven giggled a little, shaking his head.
"Well you did bite my finger earlier." She snapped her teeth at him playfully, remembering her squeal when he had done so earlier. Iven bit her all the time. It was never dangerous, and never painful. Just playful.
"No, I am fine out here." He protested. Cordelia grinned at his determinations.
"Good," she admitted, "I don't really feel like moving." Cordelia wiggled her butt closer to his, letting his body heat consume her whole. Ivan was always everything she needed. Warmth, support, a friend. If only he could be more. She sighed- being a Pure Blood wasn't what all it seemed to be cut up to be. Cordelia would give up her magic to be with Iven. She casually used her free hand to wipe away the moisture on her cheeks.
"There's no thanks needed." Iven said simply, burying further into her. Cordelia nuzzled into his head- keeping her mind blank from compromising thoughts. Each time they cuddled and comforted each other, she died on the inside a little- though at the same time felling the love she felt for him grow. Her love for him consumed her at times, and it was at those times, late at night, that she would slip out of bed and into her brothers. Which even more sadly was in the same dorm room as Iven himself. She couldn't count on all her hands and toes how many times she had been literally inches away from crawling into bed with him and just sleeping there for the rest of the night. In his warmth and comfort. Each and every time Caesar would call her away with his words- reminding her that if she were to make that move, she would only regret it emotionally later. So he would crawl into his bed and her brother would be the one to comfort her when she cried at night, instead of the one boy she was crying over. Cordelia couldn't understand how Caesar did it. He was so lucky. Caesar had, at a time, been betrothed, but a horrible accident resulting int he girls death had stopped that plan in its tracks. Now his parents searched for another Pure Blood Veela family to mix with. Why couldn't she just defy her parents like he did? Oh, that's right. She was a daughter, not a son. Cordelia sighed against Iven.
"So you and I at the party?" He smiled down to her, leaning down to look into her eyes.
Cordelia looked up into Iven's eyes modestly, she didn't want him to get the wrong idea...not completely anyways. "You and I. At the party." She confirmed with confidence.
"And then you and Chyna are going to spike the punch?" With a shake of his head and a grin, he rested his forehead on her head. Cordelia blushed at his actions. Merlin how she wanted it to be much more then cuddle sessions here and there. Iven was so sweet, and the lovability radiated off of him. Why couldn't he have been the one she was promised to, instead of some boy she didn't know. He was a Durmstrang student. She wondered if she had met him back in her fourth year when Durmstrang students had come for the first TriWizard Tournement. She knew about that school. The Dark Arts was practiced there, and it was openly okay to support the Dark Lord. Cordelia's opinions on the subject of the Dark Lord didn't matter- so she never gave it any thought. The fact was, unless something "terrible" happened to the man she was promised to, she would be marrying a Durmstrang student, and she could guarantee that he supported the Dark Lord, much like her own parents did.
Cordelia shuddered, wanting to cry. She was going to marry a Durmstrang student. She was going to marry someone who wasn't Iven. She, Cordelia Harrington, was going to become a Death Eaters wife. What if he beat her? She shivered again, though not from the wind that encircled the two friends.
"That's why I- why I love you." Iven stumbled over his words and a deep blush came over his cheeks.
"Don't say that," She whispered, "It hurts too much." Pain filled her eyes and voice. It wasn't fair! Why wasn't she allowed to be happy? Why didn't the world love her? Most days, the two of them already acted like a couple- though never saying the words out loud, for fear of what it might mean for the two of them. They could never openly act in this particular way around others, as many people knew about Cordelia's situation, and wouldn't hesitate to OWL her father. Cordelia squeezed her best friend closer, eyes shut and fingers gripping his sweater tightly. 'I love you more.'

The world, as it seems, hated Iven. It sent him off in a way that prepared him just for what he wanted in life- Cordelia- and took that away from him. He was her soulmate and nobody at Hogwarts would doubt it. They did everything together, they were the best couple that could ever be sculpted by a higher power- but that part of him was eroding away. He was replaced by a douchebag from Durmstrang. The sculpture that Cordelia and Iven had been was flawed. It was not Iven's face that needed to be there. And with the power her parents had, Iven had no choice but to fall from his own personal grace into a pit of despair, sorrows, and depression.
Iven's family wasn't as powerful and well-known as the pre-arranged fiancé of hers. But the Durmstrang student's family was corrupt. Maybe that's why they needed him. Cordelia talked bad about her parents some nights, claiming that they defied eachother and how everything was damned. By damning it, they damned Iven. Any and all of his hope had come crashing down when Cordelia told him about her father's choice. The boy had a reputation over there. He was crude, loud, annoying, he never finished anything, and his way with words were far from charming.
The things that he wasn't was everything that Iven was. He was everything and more than that bastard she was going to marry. If only Iven could convince Cordelia and her parents. That would never happen, not even in Iven's wildest dreams.
The things Iven needed to say to Cordelia, the things he wanted to tell her- they all swarmed his ears and brain, attacking his nerves and puncturing his ability to stay calm. Iven's hands shook a bit while he held her, his eyes closing slowly. Breathe, Iven. Breathe. He was strong for her, for them, for the microscopic hope he had that maybe someday Cordelia would be his wife, not Mitt's. With a shaky breath, he gasped for air and his chest pains slowly began to die down, replacing them with tremors of his heart pains. 'If I could hold you forever, it wouldn't be enough.'
"Don't say that," She whispered, "It hurts too much." Pain filled her eyes and voice. Cordelia squeezed her best friend closer, eyes shut and fingers gripping his sweater tightly.
Noticing her eyes were wet, and her voice was shaken, Iven pulled back and looked into her eyes. He let go of her for a moment and wiped her cheeks gently, feeling the path that her tears had traveled down. His eyes went wide and he shook his head, pulling back from her. "I'm sorry. I hurt you." He said under his breath, barely audible "I shouldn't have said that." He pulled his hand back to scratch his neck nervously and turned to look out over the lawns, a few tears welling up in his eyes. He fought them off quickly and sniffed, wiping his sleeve along his mouth, hiding his discontentment.
With ease, he pulled his beige sweater off revealing a light blue v-neck, and he handed it over to her slowly. "Here, take this." He had to make up for not holding her somehow. But he just couldn't touch her. It was too much for him- for his pain. His eyes closed tight and his hands ran through his curls once again. "Keep it. It's yours."
"Cordelia," he said just as breathlessly as he had when she came to him a few moments ago, "you should go inside. I-" he thought of a lie, "I need to feed and I don't think you'd want to see." Iven's green eyes found hers for a second before a small smile came over him and he looked back out over the lawns, the churning feeling coming on twice as strong, but in his chest this time.

Cordelia gripped harder before finally releasing her hold on Iven's sweater. Iven pulled back and looked into her eyes, wiping her cheeks. She blushed in embarrassment. "I got something in- in both my eyes." She muttered and gave a weak smile, not wanting to let go. She sobered up quickly, putting her Slytherin facade up and blocking off all emotions when his eyes widened. She was getting in too deep this time. Becoming more attached and letting more of her thoughts and emotions show. What if the feelings weren't returned. Or even worse, what if they were. Cordelia wouldn't be able to live with herself if she knew she hurt Iven.
"I'm sorry. I hurt you. I shouldn't have said that." He pulled his hand back to scratch his neck nervously and turned to look out over the lawns. Cordelia's heart busted into a thousand pieces and all she wanted to do was curl up with Iven and confess her love for him, kissing everywhere her mouth would easily and appropriately reach. Cordelia laughed humorlessly.
"Don't apologize. I'm as good as dead once I get married. Same fate as the wife of all Death Eaters." She looked up at him and regretted her words immediately. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that." She didn't want him to pity her. She watched with building sadness as he pulled his beige sweater off and handed it to her. Cordelia took the sweater with a shaky hand, brushing against his own.
"Here, take this." Iven eyes closed tight and his hands ran through his curls once again. Cordelia reached up to take his hand.
"Please- please don't be sad. This is my fault. I..." She trailed off not knowing what to say. But it seemed that whenever they became emotional, it just ended with a flare in her heart brake.
"Keep it. It's yours." Cordelia slipped the larger sweater on, snuggling into it. Its warm comfort made her want to cry even more. Her life would end once she got married. No more Iven, and no more happiness. Not even Caesar would be able to make up for it. The best she could hope for was the Dark Lord being displeased with her and ending her life swiftly. She thought of what that would do to Iven. She hoped he would never find out. Maybe she wouldn't even make it down the isle...
"Cordelia," Iven sounded as miserable as she felt, [i["you should go inside. I-"[/i]
Cordelia heard nothing after that. She just nodded absentmindedly and without looking at him she stood and began to walk. A breeze hit her like ice, and angry breeze. She hated herself for walking away, and it seemed as though even the Gods of the world were angry about her actions. The Gods were cruel beings. They continued to push her towards her soul mate, only to rip him away from her down the road. The breeze screamed at her angrily and she snuggled into her sweater, letting out a sob, quickening her pace so Iven wouldn't hear her breakdown anymore then he already had heard.
She didn't stop walking until she got back to the lake's edge. Cordelia sat down in the shallow part of the lake and pulled her knee's to her. The pressure behind her eyes built until finally her homemade barriers broke and she cried out angrily, chunking a rock at the water to match her anger. The water rippled and she watched through a blurry vision as the Giant Squid made an appearance. But it wasn't angry. If possible, it looked sympathetic, and sad itself. Cordelia cried for only Merlin knew how long. She wiped at her eyes roughly, disgusted with herself for being such a mess. When her vision was clearer, she looked up and saw that the squid was only a few feet out.
The crying Slytherin sniffled and wiped her nose with the back of her arm that was covered by the sweater. The neck of the sweater was soaked in her tears. She stood up to face the squid and walked further towards it into the water until she was wait deep.
"Do I amuse you? The weak and disgusting Slytherin, crying at your water's edge? Are you happy, that the student you hate is this broken?" Cordelia shouted at the beast, more tears streaming down her face now. She half expected it snatch her up and drown her- she wasn't so sure she would fight it either. But instead, the creature raised a tentacle, and delicately managed to lift crochet hat off of her head. It then used it to dry from under her eyes. Cordelia watched as it took her hat, to keep it. She could only smile softly.
Maybe she had it all wrong. The Giant Squid and her- maybe they were more alike then she thought. Maybe they were actually friends. She smiled a little wider. "Thank you." She whispered, choking on another sob, this one more happier. The Giant Squid, her friend, swam back away from her, and waving its tentacle, lowered beneath the water. Cordelia turned her back and exited the water. She had a new view on things. That small gesture by such a wild and dangerous creature, who had killed students in the past, gave her a new energy, and a glimmer of hope. She walked and came back up over the hill. Iven still sat there. She began walking, the closer she got, the more her speed picked up. By the time she reached him, she was running. And once she got close enough, she launched herself into his arms, her feet being picked up off the ground due to his towering height.
"Fuck my parents, and fuck Mitt! You know I hate this. I don't want this. It is unfair and cruel. You are my best friend." Cordelia squeezed his neck. "I'm sorry I have such a shitty family, minus Caesar of course." She laughed lighter. Earlier, when she left, she felt as though they had gone through a "friend breakup."
Cordelia Harrington simply refused to let that happen.

Iven noticed her eyes becoming wetter, and his heart ached. There were so many things he wanted to do, wanted to say, but he couldn't. The ability to look at her and smile everyday- that was growing thin. If she were to know everything he felt when she was with him, when she was leaned up on his chest and he was comforting her after a bad day, she wouldn't be doing this to him. If he could convince himself to not love her, that he was only hurting himself (which he was), he wouldn't be sitting there on the lawn, eyes on her, heart in her hands. He would be out and about, making himself a new name and a new relationship. He would be trying to become a happy person, not sitting there dwelling about all the reasons why he couldn't be with her. If only things were normal, but with Iven and Cordelia, that would never be.
"Don't apologize. I'm as good as dead once I get married. Same fate as the wife of all Death Eaters." She looked up at him and regretted her words immediately. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that."
Her voice broke though his thoughts and he turned his head towards her slightly. His blood boiled slightly and he shook his head strongly. "If he touches you in that way, if he even thinks of laying a hand on you," Iven bit his tongue and relaxed a bit, his eyes sinking back to the ground. "I'd kill for you." His fangs were popping out, almost over his bottom lip.
"Please- please don't be sad. This is my fault. I..." She trailed off.
Iven laughed a bit, shaking his head again. "It is too late for sad. It's too late for heartbroken, beaten up inside, bruised, shattered, left alone." He looked at her from the corner of his eye, and closed them. "We passed that bridge a long time ago. We crossed that when you told me that you were engaged to someone in Durmstrang." His heart pounded against his chest and he became eerily quiet.
When Cordelia slipped into his sweater and left, his hands went to his face and he pulled his knees into his chest. 'There goes my life.' He thought quietly. Once her scent was a comfortable distance away, tears came flowing heavily over his cheeks and onto his shirt. He had never cried like that before. His mind closed off so nobody could pick up on it, his natural defense mechanism, and he let them drip onto the grass below him. Despite the sick, vexatious feeling inside, he remained on the lawn.
The sun was beaming extra bright at that moment, and his heart was growing weak. He literally was letting himself get burned out there, and he honestly didn't care. After about ten minutes, he was letting out small cries of agony as his skin began to react, but he was alone. There was nobody there to hear him, nobody there to spot his pitiful head of curls out there. Gently, he raised his head up, furrowing his brow nervously as he examined his skin. He noticed his skin becoming red and agitated, the beginning signs, and his eyes closed. Somewhere, deep inside, he liked the pain. It was a reassurance that he was human, not some freak, and that he had a heart. His heart was bruised and battered, but it still beat inside his ribs, chock full of love despite its state of being.
His cries became louder, but so did the noises and the scents around him. Standing to his feet, slowly and calmly, he turned to face the entrance to Hogwarts, slipping his hands into his pockets. As he began to walk, a strong thudding noise became evident in his ears. With his eyes locked on the ground, he moved them to the entrance's general direction, a small fiber of his being hoping that it was actually not Cordelia. He couldn't let her see him like this. 'She's going to kill me.' His eyes shot up to see a figure emerge at a walking pace towards him. It was Cordelia. His fangs popped out further than he had them, and his hands clenched his jeans nervously. His arms were a rich red color, his face was somewhat burned from his leisure time in the deadly and beautiful sun.
But something made his heart thump hard against his chest. Her pace picked up and he stopped walking, his eyes locked on hers. By the time she was near him, she was off the ground and his arms were instinctively around her lower back, holding her against him in a way that people passing by would think that he hadn't seen her in years- it sure felt like it. Iven's face buried into her shoulder and he took in her scent, his eyes changing into a deep, solid green.
"Fuck my parents, and fuck Mitt! You know I hate this. I don't want this. It is unfair and cruel. You are my best friend." Cordelia squeezed his neck. "I'm sorry I have such a shitty family, minus Caesar of course."
Iven couldn't bring himself to speak just yet. He held her to him and squeezed tightly, hoping it didn't hurt her, before setting her back down on her feet, his arms around her still, though. "I care about you," he paused, sniffing from his little emotional out pour earlier, "and I care about you more than anyone ever can begin to comprehend." His eyes were serious and he took her hand in his. "I can't stand here idly by and hurt myself because.." he looked down slowly, "because I care about you so much." His fangs slipped back into his gums and he groaned, stomping his foot in a stubborn way. "You mean the world to me and I can't have you gone." He shook his head. "I was totally lying when I said you should leave." He whispered. "I just- I got scared, and I knew that I had messed up when I said I loved you. I shouldn't have." He pulled his hands to rub at his temples aimlessly. "I'm reckless and clumsy, its a mess, and I know you can't love me. I know it hurts." He clasped his hands to his hair, rubbing the curls nervously about his skull. "If I didn't love you, my life would be so much easier." He confessed, a frown overtaking his features.
"But I like the challenge, and I wouldn't change it for the world. Not for you, your family, your brother, anyone." He nodded happily and leaned down to hug her tight, ruffling her hair. "Things can only get better, right?" He grinned sheepishly before eyeing his arms uneasily, a sudden rush of sickness overcoming him as he covered his mouth. "I need the nurse to check this out." He winced, finally feeling the condition on his forearms and face.

Cordelia was comforted greatly when she felt Iven squeeze her tightly, and still then it didn't feel tight enough. Her arms held him tighter then ever before, as if she were trying to occupy the space he stood in at the same time as him. Her eyes were squeezed shut tightly, not wanting to ever let go.
"I care about you," he paused, sniffing from his little emotional out pour earlier, "and I care about you more than anyone ever can begin to comprehend." His eyes were serious and he took her hand in his. Cordelia looked up at him, pulling the hand that held hers up to her cheek and rubbing against it. She was crying now, but didn't want to interrupt him.
"I can't stand here idly by and hurt myself because.." he looked down slowly, "because I care about you so much." His fangs slipped back into his gums and he groaned, stomping his foot in a stubborn way. Cordelia flinched, only slightly. She hated seeing him upset like this. He meant so much to her. She nodded at his words.
"I care about you too." She whispered, never looking away from his face.
"You mean the world to me and I can't have you gone." He shook his head. Cordelia's heart broke.
"I don't want to go away. I never wanted this. I hate my parents for this. And I will never forgive them." She spoke darkly. Her parents would live to regret this decision, if she had to make them suffer, by Merlin they would regret it. She took a hesitant step forward, she felt like she didn't deserve to be around him, because she was, after all, the reason he was upset. But Cordelia wrapped her arms around his chest anyways, and rested her head on his chest, under his chin.
"I was totally lying when I said you should leave." He whispered.
Cordelia shook her head in confusion. "Then why..." She couldn't understand.
"I just- I got scared, and I knew that I had messed up when I said I loved you. I shouldn't have." He pulled his hands to rub at his temples aimlessly. Cordelia pulled back, deciding that she didn't like hearing him say that very much. She opened her mouth to speak but was cut off.
"I'm reckless and clumsy, its a mess, and I know you can't love me. I know it hurts." Iven clasped his hands to his hair, rubbing the curls nervously about his skull. "If I didn't love you, my life would be so much easier." He confessed, a frown overtaking his features. Cordelia began to cry. Her heart ached so much at those last words, and she wanted to turn away, feeling embarrassed. For a second time she was cut off when she opened her mouth to speak.
"But I like the challenge, and I wouldn't change it for the world. Not for you, your family, your brother, anyone." Iven nodded happily and leaned down to hug her tight, ruffling her hair. Cordelia held him to her, but her arms, her whole body, was too weak to hold him tight. She opened her mouth to say three words- cut off again my the man she held.
"Things can only get better, right?" He grinned sheepishly. Cordelia pulled back quickly.
"Stop." She said sharply. "Stop talking." She chuckled. "You are the one. I love you! Be glad I walked away. I had a very...interesting encounter with the Giant Squid, and it has made me stronger. You are the one I want to spend my life with. I think, deep down, I've known that all along. I was just too scared to admit it to myself. Too scared that if I admitted it, I would just suffer in the end and lose you. But I refuse to let that happen. I love you, and I want to marry you. I just-" She looked away, fearing his reaction to her next words. "The other guy, him...he has to die." She said in a whisper.
"I need the nurse to check this out." Iven winced, finally feeling the condition on his forearms and face. Cordelia's eyes trailed down his body to his arms and she gasped.
"Are you crazy?" She grabbed him by the hand and drug him over to a near by gazebo and sat him down, taking his arm in her hands and looking it over. This had happened to him a few times before.

"I care about you too." She whispered, never looking away from his face.
Iven wanted to scream. 'Then why can't we be together. There's no denying how perfect your hands fit into mine as we walk, or how your head fits perfectly into the fold of my neck as I cuddle you. Why? Just tell me why?' His hands shook slightly and he smiled to her, his heart exploding with thoughts and things he needed to say. "I know you do. I've always known you do."
As Iven watched her, she spoke about hating her parents and not wanting to leave. When she hesitated, he leaned forwards to meet her halfway, feeling her arms wrap around his chest tightly. His whimpers came back lightly as he held his love against him. His chin fell to her head and he nuzzled into her hair. "I wish I could do something."
As Iven rambled on about his feelings, he could feel her hold on him tighten. She needed to say something but the words kept spilling out of his heart and he couldn't help it. He slowed down and her arms wrapped right around him before she pulled back.
"Stop." She said sharply. "Stop talking." She chuckled.
Iven furrowed his brow in confusion, and he opened his mouth to ask, but he was caught off guard.
I love you, and I want to marry you."
His hands wrapped around her tightly, tighter than he ever could imagine, and his eyes shifted into a deep, deep emerald green. Pulling back, he lowered down and pulled her chin up, looking deep into her eyes. "I love you." He said with the profoundest confidence, his gentle fingers moving to caress her cheek and brush against her lips lightly before he pressed his lips to hers.
Iven's hand found themselves behind her head, supporting her, as he leaned into their kiss, his knees growing weak. A gentle peace arose from his soul and settled around him, his finger breaking from her skin as did his lips when he needed a big breath. He caught one and closed his eyes, the feeling much to grand to describe with words. He wanted to apologize- to cry- to scream. But it all depended on how she would react.
" I just-" She looked away, fearing his reaction to her next words. "The other guy, him...he has to die." She said in a whisper.
His hands pressed against her cheeks and he pulled her to look at him. "He has to die?" Iven was concerned. "Has he done something to you? Cordelia, I'll rip his throat out." His hands moved to her shoulders and he pulled her against his chest, rocking her from side to side, comforting her.
With a change, the attention was on Iven's arms now, instead of Cordelia and his relationship. Their newly formed relationship.
"Are you crazy?" She grabbed him by the hand and drug him over to a near by gazebo and sat him down, taking his arm in her hands and looking it slowly. This had happened to Iven a few times before. His fingers curled up at her touch and he smiled gently.
"Crazy for you," he started with a chuckle and leaned in to kiss her forehead. "It'll go away- you know how this happens a lot."
