Brianna had decided to take a walk after all of her classes had ended. She needed to walk around and clear her mind from her hectic day. It was almost like the torture of being a student at Hogwarts never ends.
She went to the one place she could always get her mind cleared the Suspension Bridge. Not many people and the last place someone would look for an outgoing Hufflepuff.
She loved looking out at Hogwarts. It was also so beautiful to her. It made her feel free and she loved that feeling.

Cassidy had just ran from her last class she didn't care where she went nor where her feet took her. Which it seemed was to the suspension bridge she found a seat and sat down out of breath only to stand back up and pace back and forward unsure of how she was feeling nor of what she would do next or where she wanted to be. Her mind spun and reeled so much she had to sit down or she would fall down or over the side of the bridge her chest hurt from the running and her cheeks glistened with the tears she had shed as she had ran away.
She didn't notice any one else on the bridge and so lay her head back on the wood of the bridge wall. Her cloak now used to try and stop herself from shaking and failing. " why can't it all stop" she said kicking out at a stone. It skitter across the bridge and dove off the edge making her mind think what if she did that, slowly she stood up and walked to the side and looked over at the long drop under her.

Brianna had just seen an young Ravencalw student just step over the ledge of her the bridge. Her heart stopped beating. The student was going to jump! Oh Merlin no! She was not going to watch a student commit suicide.
“I hope you’re not going to jump,” she said. She swung her legs over the side of the bridge and join the young girl. She remembered the last time she saw a person this upset was when her best friend had been bullied to the point of no returned, she couldn’t save her but she sure in hell wasn’t going to let another innocent girl die the same way.
“You know a very long time ago another Ravencalw girl was doing this exact same thing there was he Hufflepuff friend that had fallowed trying to get her to talk to her. Her friend didn’t get to her time before she jumped to her death. That friend is still haunted to this day with the memory of watching her best friend fall to her death. She remembers the girl’s parents sobbing over the mangled body of their daughter and she would come here every day until she graduated. She came here to clear her mind and to remind her how beautiful life was even when things got horrible,” she said trying not to let tears fall.
She was also a bit frightened of slipping but she swallowed her fear and stuck it out. She had to help this girl no matter what. If that girl tried to jump she was going to try to save her even if it cost her own life.

Cassidy heard a woman's voice and she stopped, moving to sit down with her head hung low as she listened to her speak. "I have only one friend, but hes thinking of leaving the school." she said wiping the steady stream of tears that seem to slowly trickle down her cheek. It was then she turned her head to see it was a professor who sat with her, one of a few classes she actually liked.
Cassidy quickly sniffed back some tears as she spoke softly to the professor once again. "why..why does this happen to me,I feel like I just want to get away from it all, like its all happening to me. " She said her body once again shaking as she sat now she pulled her legs up in front of her. She could feel her heart beating hard and fast in her chest the more she thought about the fight she had seen.
Cassidy tried to push the memory back away but it would not leave her like a picture hung on a wall she could not shake the images that now swirled in her head she knew she had to move on and forget, it felt like her emotions were locked with theirs. She felt she could feel the anger they felt and the fear of the other boy as he lay on the ground. She moved from the edge and sat on a seat feeling the panic leaving her now.

Brianna knew things weren’t the best right know between studies. She didn’t know what it was like to be an student in a war but she did remember being a kid in a war. She remembered all the fights the wizarding kids would get into when she use to go to Diagon Alley and how her mum would break them apart scolding them for being so immature.
“I know what it feels like to feel like the world was against you. That girl that lost her friend was me and after she died I felt like I had no one that understood me and that I was alone. No matter how bad it gets don’t give up. A few years ago I lost both of my parents and I thought that the world was against me again then I remember that day and I got through my education and now I’m here teaching,” she said.
She tried to hold back the tears that threatened to fall from mentioning her parents but refused to cry in front of an student. She saw the pain from losing people and that fear her students’ eyes and it made her so angry.

Cassidy looked at the professor and sighed deeply she wiped the tears she felt running down her face and spoke softly " I'm...I'm sorry to hear that" she said softly and patted her hand " um.. have you ever heard of any student picking up on another person's emotions ?" she asked and looked at her. She brushed her hair from her face and pushed it behind her ear a little as she sat.
Cassidy could not help but lean on her knees as she spoke again " every time it happens I.. I just can't control my self like I'm feeling it all both sides both sets of feelings and...Its screwed up" she said shaking her head back and forth. She felt the panic rising once again but closed her eyes and took a deep breath calming her self once more. "Professor, whats wrong with me ?" she asked looking at her.

Brianna looked at the upset girl. She looked so confused and hurt. She had heard of empaths before but had never really ever meet anyone with one. She remembered her father talking about things like this.
“There is nothing wrong with you. It’s an gift. See you an empath ,you can sense the truth behind the cover and will act compassionately to help that person express him/herself, thus making them feel at ease and not so desperately alone,” she said.
She knew that the young girl wasn’t going to believe it was a gift. She knew what it was like to be different. She grew up in a muggle neighbourhood and was teased for being able to do things others couldn’t.
“I know it feels like a curse but trust me it will help you on in life,” she said.

Cassidy looked at the professor and sighed, an empath was that what she was. Cassidy again looked down at the ground " how..how can I control it?" she asked " How did I get it, who from?" she asked and quickly looked at the professor. Cassidy moved to face her her mind not quite understanding how she could be an empath. It was then she realized some thing and jumped up on to her feet.
" my mother she...she would disappear every so often, I though it was to just relax as she always came back happy, could she have be an empath?" she asked and sat back down some what exhausted both her hands now moving to cover her head " Gahh, I have a head ache now" she said rubbing her temples.

Brianna was trying to process everything that was going on. She knew that it was genetic but it’s not like she had gone to school for genetics so she had to give the best guess on this. She had to think back to what her father would talk about with genetics.
“There is no real way to know who you got it from unless you ask. It is very possible it could have been from your mum,” she said “there is no way to truly control it but you can use it to defuse situations.”
“It is like how a witch and a muggle can have a magical child but there is a small chance they will have a non-magical child. There are dominate and recessive traits and just depending on what your parents are you get certain traits,” she said wishing she had her father’s brains right now.
It was confusing to understand let alone explain. This is a very good reason why they need to teach wizarding children some muggle classes before Hogwarts. She didn’t want to explain muggle science at this moment.

Cassidy sat and listened to her some of what she said made sense but some made her head hurt thinking about it. Cassidy held her head again and sighed " I..I think I know what you mean, Like how only some chocolate frogs are good jumpers and others aren't, um...what was it called ..natural selection, right?" she asked feeling now she had some sort of answer but was she a throw back to some one in her past or a product of her mother being a witch and her father a muggle.
She lent back against the wall and sighed her head hurting less now than it had earlier. Taking a piece of string she tied it up and away from her face reveling her eyes now a little red from her crying but still blue and looking at the professor. " I haven't slept right since...since my friend left" she spoke with some sadness lingering in her voice she missed David and wanted to go after him.

Brianna remember how she didn’t sleep until a week after her friend died and three weeks after her parents died within days of each other. She knew what it felt like to worry what will happen to someone you care about.
“Everyone has trouble sleeping these days. I use to sing a muggle lullaby to myself when I couldn’t sleep. Do you know Golden Slumbers?” she asked “it' a Welsh lullaby my dad use to sing me.”
She had seen so many students giving her that same disparate look it was starting to make her sick. She didn’t know how to help this girl but she was going to try.
“Now tell me why this friend left,” she said getting down to eye level.

Cassidy sighed and looked at the professor shaking her head, she didn't know the song but singing sounded a good idea it would relax her. She listened and watched the professor move to her level and sighed " he...he had problems, inner demons you might say he felt every one didn't accept him.. but I did..I liked him he was the only person who..who cared about me " she said and gave a deep sigh she felt it strange that the one person she had felt comfortable with was a schizophrenic.
with a sigh Cassidy started to hum looking at the woman then she found words finding she did know the song she mentioned.
"Once there was a way to get back homeward Once there was a way to get back home Sleep pretty darling do not cry And I will sing a lullaby
Golden slumbers fill your eyes Smiles awake you when you rise Sleep pretty darling do not cry And I will sing a lullaby
Once there was a way to get back homeward Once there was a way to get back home Sleep pretty darling do not cry And I will sing a lullaby "
Cassidy looked at her " my mother liked the band the Beatles, not any more " she said and chuckled " I never saw the interest in them myself, but each to their own I guess" she said and gave a small smile to her.

Brianna smiled at the young girl; she realized she didn’t even know her name. She remembered her father playing the Beatles which brought back memories of her childhood. She knew the song by heart now.
"What is your name?" she asked.
She decided to connect with the girl more. Trying to understand everything going on in her mind.
“My father use to listen to the Beatles and so he would sing that to me because we both knew the words,” she said.

Cassidy looked at Brianna as she was asked her name. " Its Cassidy, Cassidy Mitchell" she said and sighed " My father just liked classical, Bach, Beethoven, basically any, it was interesting growing up" she could not help but look at the woman next to her " still is , no friend's, no boy friend's, nobody to talk to" she said with a sigh. Her head hung down as she pulled her legs up to her chest.
" all I do every day is classes an my room that's it, no clubs , I'm scared that I'll be picked on and humiliated in them" she said " seeing as I'm only a fourth year " she finished buy resting her head on her knees. " this wold is scary and I hate it, some days so much so I feel like I want to..." she paused taking a deep breath in and hugging her knees tighter so much so her nails dug into her skin and small trickles of blood ran down her legs.

Brianna sighed softly to herself. She didn’t know much about not having friends; everyone in Hufflepuff was like family back then. She didn’t quite know how she could comfort the girl once again. She wasn’t quite a sure person when it came to children even when they were fourteen.
“I don’t know much about being alone like that but I do know something about finding your place. I use to be scared of ridicule too at one point but I learned sometimes that you have to take ridicule in order to grow. And when someone ridicules you can just tell them to shut the hell up. And yes I’m not afraid to swear when talking to a student,”
It was in moments like this were Brianna was her strongest. She was more of an inspirational speaker then a serious speaker. She sometimes wondered why she became a professor with the way she talks to people, at least the kids don’t fall asleep in her class.
