Professor Caspian Rayner was heading to the new area he had set up for Care of Magical Creatures. The class used to be held outside of Professor Hagrid's hut, but as he wasn't the current Care of Magical Creature's Professor, it would be a little odd to have his students gather outside of the man's hut. Professor Rayner had commandeered a large plot of land out near the line of the Forbidden Forest. It was enclosed in a large fenced in area and had a good sized gazebo for him to hold parts of his class in the shade.
The night before he had managed to track down and lead away two Unicorns from the Forbidden Forest. The Professor had the perfect lesson. Unicorns were very delicate creatures, and high maintenance. He had made sure the night before, very late at night in fact, he had made sure the two male Unicorn's were completely happy. If the student's had done their work right before class, then they would be able to keep their Unicorn happy for the two hours that they had class. It wouldn't be easy, and there would be no way they could lie about the happiness of the creature, for if it was happy, at the end of the period, it would give the group hairs from its tail. They were rare and people would pay lots of money for it. He hoped the winning group, who would be separated by gender, would use their winnings wisely.
The students where to decided upon certain options to ensure happiness:
Sun or Shade* to relax in Cold Water* or Hot Water to drink Fresh Grass* or Dried Out Grass to eat Horn or Tail* as more sensitive
And as a bonus: Mandrake Root or Nightshade to snack on
All things which he would have supplied as options. Along with their ability to note when they were stressed or relaxed, and rather or not they should step back when the creature was angry. It was a lesson that would teach the students that not all creature's who looked soft and cuddly were actually soft and cuddly, and that sometimes, the "cutest" ones could be the most dangerous. As was the case with Thestrals, who though looked dangerous (if you could see them) were actually more tame then Unicorns on most occasions.
The Professor turned his head towards the castle as students started making their way along. He stood relaxed by the entrance to the enclosure and yawned, still tired from last nights wrangling. He enjoyed his class and what he taught. He was a very laid back and relaxed teacher, and he certainly did not judge houses. Before each student could enter, he would ask them a question, awarding two house points for the correct answer.
"What should you never do to a Unicorn?" It was a basic level question that most everyone should get. That was why it was worth so little points. Professor Rayner had come to understand that if you begin the class with a boost of confidence, then the students would be more relaxed and willing to learn. Once they were either given points, or told what the correct answer was, he directed them to put their things in the gazebo, as it was obviously a practical lesson, and told them to split into two groups. The females went to the Unicorn on the left, and the male students to the Unicorn on the right.

Luna was quite excited about her class today with Professor Rayner, but it was quite close to the forbidden forest but Luna didn't seem to mind too much. She knew she would love it, just being outside was a godsend for her. She grabbed her school bag and headed for the ground towards the edge of the forbidden forrest.
She skipped the whole way through, with her happy little smile glowing for the world to see. She wondered to her self what she was going to learn today and how exciting it will be, because anything to do with animals she was all in for.
She noticed her teacher ,and being her knowingly self she had to say hello. She approched Professor Rayner and waved "Hello!" she said with a smile and a song in her voice. "I'm Luna Lovegood", she said to him smiling.
"What should you never do to a Unicorn?" he asked her. There was no hello, just a question blasted at her but in a fun way. She was defenatly not prepared to answer a question right then and there, but she thought about it for a second as she tapped her chin with her finger.
She looked at him a bit confused, and she could only think to answer what she thought would be right. " Well....you should never slay or kill a unicorn", she said with to him with a saddened look on her face, as she was very attached to most animals..expecially unicorns they were always one of her favorites. She had a second part to her answer though.
"The reason being, is because it is a very heartless and mean thing to do", she said to him as she knodded a bit. "And quite disturbing if you ask me" she said to him awating his answer. She really hoped that she was right. It would be nice to win points for her Ravenclaw House because then maybe someone might say something nice to her for a change.

Katniss was just getting out of her Herbology class when she realized she had Care of Magical Creatures next. That class was one of her top favorite classes followed by DADA and Ancient Runes. She grabbed her things as she left the greenhouses and made her way down to the edge of the Forbidden forest where a gazebo had been built for the class. She quite honestly missed Hagrid as a professor, but Professor Rayner seemed pretty nice and fair too. As she made her way to class, she spotted Luna was already there. She liked Luna; as many people did not, but Kat loved Luna's cheerful personality and charm.
"Hey Luna," she greeted, "Beautiful day for class don't you think."
Then she heard the professor start first off in asking a question; instead of a hello like most professors did. Kat definitely knew that he wanted to get the students brains working right away. She also noticed two beautiful unicorns standing in front of them; Kat loved unicorns. They were so mysterious yet could be very temperamental.
"What should you never do to a Unicorn?"
Katniss was for sure she knew the answer and listening to Luna, she smiled and nodded to agree that Luna had the same answer Kat was thinking.
"I too have that similar answer as Luna. You should never say that you are going to slay a unicorn. The reason is unicorns are very mysterious and can be temperamental, and if you say the wrong thing to anger them, you could be in a world of danger. It is also to slay something so pure like a unicorn," she said giving her answer to his question, "And you should never drink the blood of a unicorn. If you slain a unicorn and drink its blood you will live a half-life."

It was that time of the day. Care of Magical Creatures time! Rhye sprung himself up out of bed excitedly and his messy hair was quickly gelled back. Slipping on his robes, he grabbed his bag and headed towards the door. He was usually the first one there in the morning, but today he was running a bit late, which was still very early. Out the doors of Hogwarts, Rhye slowed himself down on his way to the gazebo where the lesson was held.
Rhye spotted Luna, and a very younger Hufflepuff named Katniss, and farther from them, the professor. He picked his pace up to a sprint and neared his class easily. Once he arrived, he sent Professor Rayner a big smile and nodded a 'Hello', listening to his question.
"What should you never do to a Unicorn?"
His eye brows raised. "Well, good morning to you, sunshine!" He laughed, a teasing gleam in his eye.
Rhye's smile picked up and he grinned, a devilish twinkle in his eyes. "Well," he started with a breath, a smirk spreading across his lips, "you should never touch it inappropriately. Like its horn for example, unless you buy it dinner first." He shrugged his shoulders back. "And you should never try to ride one naked... I've learned that one the hard way." He dramatically rubbed his back and bent over a bit, as if the pain was still there. "Oh, and you should never hurt them or slay them- like Luna said, because it takes someone completely heartless to hurt them. It's cruel." Obviously Rhye's serious answer was the last one, he had known that from the start.
With a chuckle, he waited to be corrected or scolded for his ridiculous answer- he was only hoping to lighten the mood. It was really early, of course. Rhye had been Rayner's favorite student for years now- it helped that he loved the class much like the professor did. He always excelled in the course- no matter how much he joked or laughed.

Cassidy walked with the others Unicorns weren't a thing for her, too babyish she thought but it was part of the curriculum and she had no choice but to take it. Her hands were deep in the pockets of her black jacket as she walked in her black converse ankle boots and blue jeans behind the others she just wanted this class over with hr mind was screaming to get back to her room and hide under her covers again.
She hated groups now since her trip into Hogsmead witch ended in her in the boat house recovering from her own bad memories. She could felt the breeze on her cheek and smiled a little as it felt good on her skin cooling and refreshing it. It was then she heard the professor talk about the unicorns and she thought back to her books , which she had left in her room.

Running had never been Isolde’s strong point. Sure, she was energetic and never seemed to run out of steam, but running was beyond her. She hated it, no matter how good she was, she would never like it. And here she was, running straight down a hill towards the Care of Magical Creatures class with her hair and robes flying, bag hastily hung over one shoulder.
Maybe it hadn’t been such a good idea to go back to the Ravenclaw common room to grab her favorite quill.
Isolde’s speed as she ran down the hill became too much for her though, and she began to fly.
Not really, she tripped.
And head over heels she fell, bag tumbling after. At least grass is soft and Isolde landed lighter than she could have. For a moment or two she sat, dazedly staring at the piece of grass hanging off of her hair. “Ow.” Was all she could say before awkwardly standing, collecting her fallen bag – miraculously, it had stayed closed and everything inside was intact.
Isolde wasn’t… Or rather, she was bruised and battered all over. At least they would be looking at Unicorns that day, the creatures were lovely!
It was time to be there all ready and with that Isolde slipped into the back of the group, not even bothering the brush off the various pieces of grass that adorned her clothing and hair. Isolde wasn’t one for appearances, so what did a bit of grass matter?
But she was late, and that did matter, for Isolde was, no matter what people said, a lover of learning, she wasn’t, in fact, stupid as some were led to believe by her childish nature. In fact, if she had heard the question posed by the Professor she could have answered it with ease, if only, if only…

Necessities, Antony found, could be both good at bad. For example, were he lucky enough to require something he actually liked then there would be no issue; no basis for complaint or dissatisfaction, even if he didn't enjoy minor things, because as a whole he would know that he was doing something he was actually interested in in the long run. Care of Magical Creatures, however, was not one of those necessities - indeed, it was instead one of the boring ones, the things he only attended because he absolutely needed the mark (but only in terms of making his final grades look good; please, he never struggled in his classes).
Hilariously enough, though, the problem he had with Care of Magical Creatures generally wasn't even the subject matter. Indeed, it was often being stuck around fascinating animals and listening to the rambling morons that were his simple classmates that made him want to coolly hex someone's mouth to their ankle so that he could nonchalantly kick it and shut them up that way.
The thought made him want to smirk, and he allowed the sentiment to reflect in his eyes.
In retrospect, he should have expected the response to the Professor's mundane question. Asking a class of teenagers the things you shouldn't do to a unicorn was just begging for amateur jokes, and amateur jokes they most certainly got in the form of a Ravenclaw boy, one he had seen around but never paid attention to. Well, until now.
"You're not that funny," the Slytherin said in a flat voice, his eyes swiping over the Ravenclaw's body with something that could only be described as flat-out derision.

There were days that were good, Benedict thought, and days that were bad. And then, there were days that seemed to land on neither side of the spectrum, falling somewhere in between as unmemorable and quite eventless. Today, it seemed, was one of those days.
Benedict hummed to himself as he walked up to the small group of students crowded around Professor Rayner. The corners of his lips were turned up in the faintest hint of a smile, and he slipped his bag off of one shoulder as he came nearer.
While not his favourite class, the Care of Magical Creatures was not one he particularly disliked. He knew it would not pertain to him in the future, but that didn't stop him from enjoying it.
Arriving just in time to hear the second half of Rhye's statement and the scathing remark from the Slytherin, Benedict curled his lip and dropped his bag to the ground. Bloody hell, the guy got on his nerves. It was like the guy was francium or some element and he was water, and there was a giant clash of opposing personalities every time they were so much as ten meters apart.
"Loosen up," he growled. "It was a joke." Sure, perhaps a poorly-delivered one, but a joke nonetheless. The guy had no sense of humour whatsoever, and with his head shoved so far up his ass, Benedict didn't see him getting one anytime soon.

Hannah rushed over to the group lining up in front of two unicorns. She wished that her class before wasn’t anywhere near this class, she’d be late every time at this rate. She had no idea what was going on but she didn’t mind unicorns. She found them as a much milder animal compared to many others. Out of the group of students she only recognized Luna who she sure had no idea who she was but that wasn’t going to stop her. She wanted to pass this class no matter who was it in or what they did. She loved animals but had never gotten a pet due to the fact she couldn't deicide which one to get.

Ah. Antony's attention was instantly diverted from the Ravenclaw, his dark eyes flickering to rest on the form of Benedict Kilfoyle, whose name he actually knew but, in his opinion, sounded better when pronounced Defect. Of course he'd be here. Like he has anything better to do.
He made a small show of surveying the Gryffindor with the smallest of smiles on his face, one that spoke of his complete and utter disdain for the other student, and of the lack of faith Antony had in anything resembling intelligence or, Heaven forbid, common sense. It was also irritating because Antony had never in his life been able to find someone who got under his skin like the infuriating idiot, and the loss of control, even a small amount, was something he could not condone.
A comparison came to his head, one depicting a muggle element, flippantly named after the location in which it was discovered, likely France, and the life-giving substance of the whole planet: water. It was a fitting comparison, he thought, eyes sparking. He remembered the last time they had talked to each other, or even attempted a conversation, though that was nothing compared to their initial meeting. Honestly, if the Gryffindor Reject was just a little let hot-headed and more focused they wouldn't have had a problem, but their personalities had clashed and, well, it hadn't ended well. For the reject, anyway.
"It was a bad joke," Antony told the other student, his tone clipped and condemning. "I am expressing my displeasure." He raised an eyebrow. "Or is that not allowed by your Gryffindor standards?"

Everything was going well. Rhye was in his favorite class, it was a nice day outside- he was just in an overall content mood. Nothing, it seemed, could possibly bring him down. As the class began slightly, he noticed a figure racing down the hill- probably because they were late- and he chuckled to himself. But that laugh soon faded as she caught air, tripping, and began rolling downhill. Luckily though, she didn't seem to be hurt. His eyes shifted as he realized she was okay and he landed them amongst the group of his fellow students and his favorite Professor.
Rhye's attention was torn from the professor when a new presence caught his attention- despite the fact that it was a gloomy, satirical, dark presence- but a presence nonetheless. With an inward roll of his eyes, he then spotted Benedict. Rhye had a spot for Benedict not solely based upon the fact that he was friends with Charles like Rhye himself was. A mutual friendship, if you will. After Rhye focused back on the lesson at hand, he was drawn back towards the Slytherin as he hissed something regarding Rhye's sense of humor. Yes, Rhye did have a sense of humor unlike the other.
"You're not that funny," the Slytherin said in a flat voice. Rhye smirked and raised a questioning eyebrow, his teeth bared.
Turning his body towards the male he cleared his throat. "At least I try and bring a little fun to the start of the day." He countered, a scowl taking place over his features. Rhye was very... perturbed at the situation as a whole. There was no need to be blatantly disrespectful when an opinion was not even asked for. With a final skim of the Slytherin's appearance (underneath a very impassive mindset), Rhye turned away from him and let a warm smile reach the rest of the group. What kind of fun would it be to let someone ruin your mood on a day like this?
As soon as he had finished with the boy, Benedict let his two cents in. "Loosen up," he growled. "It was a joke." Rhye's laugh was withheld and he glanced around the clearing noticing a new student approaching. Late also, apparently. At times like this, Rhye knew his rushing paid off. Most likely, if the Ravenclaw didn't rush, he would never roll out of bed in the morning. His thoughts were rudely interrupted when the snake spoke again.
"It was a bad joke," Antony told the other student, his tone clipped and condemning. "I am expressing my displeasure."
Rhye snorted quietly, his head shaking slowly, his eyes falling to the ground. "Where's a mongoose when you need it?" He griped under his breath, the big brown eyes of the Ravenclaw lifting up and widening as he realized what class he was in. "Oh, Professor Rayner!" He grinned. "Would you happen to have any Mongooses?" He teased, a pleasant, complete, perfect little smirk on his lips. 'Now that was a good joke. Here's to you being the ass-end inspiration for it!'

With a snort of disdain, Benedict wrinkled his nose at the Slytherin and crossed his arms. Something was most definitely not right in that kid's head; perhaps his mother hadn't given him enough love as a child.
There were few students he loathed as much as he did Antony. Maybe it was because few were so discordant with himself; maybe it was because he just really, really did not like the guy one bit. But whatever the case, it wasn't all that important in the grand scheme of things. So he'd made an enemy, so what? It wasn't like everyone was without enemies.
He'd never really had enemies in his life, however. And now that he did, there was something almost...exciting about it, in a really frustrating, enraging sort of way. Hell, the first few words that had passed between them had resulted in an explosion in the Potions classroom, a fistfight between the two of them and ten points docked from each house. And as much as Benedict would never admit it, he found some amusement in making the Slytherin lose his cool.
With a grimace at Rhye's joke, unsure of what exactly a mongoose had to do with anything, Benedict turned back to Antony. "Express your displeasure all you want," Benedict told him with the wave of his hand. "You could just put a little bit more care into doing so with a bit less...'I am holier than thou' subtext in there." He curled his lip in a sarcastic sneer. "Because really, there's nothing that makes you better than the rest of us, so why bother trying?"

Ophelia was definitely late. She swore as she left Divination. Of course she would have Divination and Care of Magical Creatures back to back. Luckily she had been able to discuss it with the Professor, who seemed very kind, and running a little late was okay. She practically glided down the hill towards the CoMC area and her face lit up when she spotted the Unicorns, however, it soon turned to a frown when she got closer and she saw irritation on a few of the students faces.
The Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Gryffindor did not look pleased at all, and Ophelia couldn't help but wonder what had happened. The Hufflepuff came up as she saw Isolde, another Ravenclaw, pick herself up off the ground, and she hoped the girl was okay. As she approached the scene her eyebrows knit together in deep confusion. Ophelia set her stuff down and walked over to the angry looking students.
"I probably shouldn't ask, but what have I missed?" She looked between them all. Something obviously happened. Ophelia knew that Rhye wasn't the biggest fan of Slytherins, but this seemed to touch beyond that. Ophelia herself withheld judgment, seeing as her younger brother was a first year Slytherin.

Post by Astoria Greengrass on Mar 26, 2012 22:31:29 GMT -5
Astoria had been slow in her trek out into the area where the Care of Magical Creatures class was to be held, but even so, she arrived about five or ten minutes early. The man teaching the class was not the giant that she had had for the first couple of years of school... The one her boyfriend had been so apt to complain about. Astoria had no qualms against Hagrid. Other than the fact that his hippogryff had mauled the person that she was falling in love with, of course. No harm besides that. She was willing to analyze Professor Rayner with a clean slate.
By the time the lesson started, Astoria was completely fixated on the unicorns. To see one in daylight was something that most people didn't get to see in general. This was a treat. Although Astoria suspected that they probably resented being so out in the open where they were easy targets. That feeling she could understand, at least. She also thought of all of the passages she'd read about their metallic-pelted offspring and concluded that if the unicorns present were parents, they were probably more than a little hacked off about being taken from their children. The fact that they were so calm now was a great feat of the professor's. Getting gored by a rampaging unicorn was just not appealing.
Listening to the answers ring out in response to Professor Rayner's question, Astoria pondered and shook her head silently. "What should you never do to a unicorn?" She eyed the looks in the creatures' eyes, the separation that the teacher had chosen, and the gleam of the pearly hairs on each unicorn in the sunlight. Finally, she spoke up clearly.
"You should never pluck hair from a unicorn's tail without gaining its consent." Astoria suppressed a smile. "And you should also not directly or boldly approach one if you're a boy. Wait for them to make the first move. They prefer females."

The first student to arrive to his class was Luna Lovegood. The quirky sixth year Ravenclaw who had one of the most interesting personalities the man had ever come across, and he always listened to her with interest. Of course, the Professor listened to all of his students with interest. As Luna finished her answer to his question, Professor Rayner chuckled.
"Quite disturbing indeed. And you were correct. Two points to Ravenclaw." He dipped his head respectively. He was aware that two points hardly seemed worth it, but it was to encourage students to speak in his class, and get their brain juices flowing. The Professor directed her towards the gazebo where she should set her things, and to the Unicorn assigned to the females. He glanced down to the next student, Katniss Rookwood, a sweet fourth year Hufflepuff. Her answer was quite impressive and he couldn't help the raising of an eyebrow.
"Very true Miss Rookwood. You should not even speak such things around a Unicorn. They are seen to be delicate fragile creatures, and that is a mistake that could result in the loss of a life." He said gravely. "I do believe the awarding of four points to Hufflepuff is in order. One is for your mentioning of the horrors that follow someone who sips the silver blood of a Unicorn." As he did with Luna, Professor Rayner sent the girl off with a warm smile. His face flickered into one of a grimace and a grin when he spotted his favorite Ravenclaw. Rhye Alexendre.
Professor Rayner had the honor of being the boys favorite professor, and had dealt with him for the past few years. The boy, undoubtedly had a unique personality, and you could never tell what what would come out of the boys mouth. That's why Professor Rayner was very near stifled tears and laughter when the boy finished his answer. He stayed strong though, and outwardly looked merely amused. He raised an eyebrow.
"Mister Alexendre, I do believe I told you not to return this year, and I ought to take points for that remark, but I'm not going to." He finally laughed and pulled his student under his arm, ruffling the boys hair, knowing it would aggravate the Pretty Boy. CoMC was Rhye's favorite class, as the professor very well knew, and the two had created a bond of mentor ship of sorts. The professor shook his head. "You are, in the end correct. Two points to Ravenclaw." He sent the boy off, giving him a nice boot to the behind as he walked away, leaving a nice footprint on the students backside.
Not very pleased, the professor watched without a hint of amusement as a young Ravenclaw made her way past him without so much as acknowledging him. However, he would give her the benefit of the doubt. He didn't know her life, and he didn't know her story. He sighed. It was one thing for the girl to not look happy, ignore him, or not want to be there, but she didn't even seem to have her stuff with her. Nothing irked him more then slacking, and he hoped for her sake that this was a one time thing that he would let slip by- but only because today was a practical lesson. He just hoped she had done a bit of early reading, for her own safety. More students were filing in and the professor just happened to look up in time to catch a flurry of blue trip on the hill and begin a lengthened roll. Professor Rayner's eyes widened as he pulled his wand out, flicking it in a smooth motion and running up to her.
"Are you okay?" He asked her gently, helping her up by the elbow. "That was quite a fall? Should I send you to Madam Pomfrey, or do you think you will be okay?" He asked her, worry filling his eyes. She pulled her bag and her supplies up and seemed to be okay. Professor Rayner made his way back to the group just in time to hear a newly arrived Gryffindor tell the newly arrived Slytherin to lighten up. As natural, he raised an eyebrow, wondering what he had missed. He folded his arms over his chest and watched the group silently. They were not small children, and could handle things on their own. Caspian Rayner strongly believed that, and unless it got physical, or began running into his class time, then he would allow them to settle their issue themselves. There was a small ruffling of the grass and Caspian Rayner pulled his eyes away from the group to spot the incoming Hufflepuff. She seemed to be doing what she was supposed to and so he let his eyes drift back over to the group of arguing students he was watching closely. The Slytherin, Antony, was speaking again, questioning 'Gryffindor standards' and the professor had to bite his tongue to keep from defending his former house. As that was what it was. Former. It was a new generation. Caspian had been criticized for being a Gryffindor when he was in school, and he to fight to defend himself numerous times. It was a new generations turn.
The tension seemed to rise, and then finally Rhye spoke. Professor Rayner frowned. He had expected the boy tot stay out of it, having previously missed the initial comment by the Slytherin when helping the fallen Ravenclaw. However, he imagined that the boy had the right to say something. It wasn't until the boy asked him if he had a mongoose, one of the only creatures willing to attack a snake, that he spoke.
"I am not amused." He spoke dryly. While yes, the remark had been clever, class was beginning, and if they didn't settle it by the beginning of class, then they could settle it after. "You are not small children, therefor I will not interfere. But know," he looked at all the boys, "I will not tolerate any level of disrespect, bullying, or disruptions in my class. This is your first and last warning. Am I understood? Did none of your mothers teach you that if you had nothing nice to say then to not speak at all? No? Well now I am saying it." He addressed the entire class now, choosing to ignore the Gryffindor's final comments with gritted teeth. He was not very pleased that his first lesson was beginning like this. "I am not a strict professor, in fact you will find that I am pretty laid back and casual. There are, however, a few things I will not tolerate. Tardiness being the first," he eyed a Hufflepuff who had entered late. Fortunately she had a good excuse. "I will also not tolerate disrespect. Frankly, I don't give a damn about your house, blood status, or who your parents are. And you know what, neither do these Unicorns." He laid a hand on the back of the one closest. "In the confines of this class, you are not a Slytherin, you are not a Gryffindor, you are not a Hufflepuff or a Ravenclaw. You are young students who attend Hogwarts and you will treat each other as such. No disrespect, and no bullying. If I catch any bullying within these confines, you can expect a punishment to be dealt out swiftly." He said with a low warning in his voice as he scanned the class. He hoped for his students sake that the message sunk in.
Professor Rayner brought his hands together with a newly formed smile. "Now, as I mentioned, I will be splitting you by gender. Females, over here," he motioned to his left, "and males over here," he motioned to his right. "Your job, is to keep them happy and contempt for the rest of the class period. You will need to have read your text before arriving to determined the conditions the Unicorn will want to be in the most. The conditions in which they will receive their food and water, along with their comfort. You will have to know how to approach them, and how to get them to follow you. This probably not something you have come across in your text that gives a definite example. So experiment," he gave a warning look at Rhye with a slight grin, "but be respectful to the animals. They are not as innocent as they appear. In fact, a Unicorn has more power then most students give it credit for. Do not let it's fluffy buttocks mislead you," he smirked at his words, "they can be dangerous. Handle them with care, and when you come to a dead end, be creative." He cast a quick tempus, and told his class to begin. He walked over to where he had been standing as a Slytherin walked in. He suspected she had heard his instruction and his ruled and so greeted her with the same question he had asked the others. Her reply was one he had not heard from the other students, and though it was not the answer he had initially been looking for, it was not wrong, and in fact it was very clever. He smiled and nodded his head impressed.
"Very good Miss Greengrass. That was something I had not expected a student to say. Very well said indeed. I do believe I will award you," he rubbed his chin, looking up in thought, "six points. Three for each part of your answer. Congratulations Miss Greengrass," he smiled politely, "six points to Slytherin. Now if you would go set your stuff in the gazebo and head over to the other group of girls, I imagine they will fill you in on what you may have missed." He send her off with a warm smile and began to walk between the groups.
The professor approached the girls group. He stood silently watching them before catching their attention. "Alright girls, for five points per person, who can tell me the level of classification given to Unicorns by the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. Two points, well, respect points," he chuckled, "if you can tell me what the level means as well." When finished there, he made his way over to the boys group. Watching them silently like he had done the girls group, he finally spoke as well.
"I have just asked the girls group a question and I will ask your group a different one. For five points per person, who can tell me where Unicorns are native too?" It was a pretty simple question, but it would get them off to a good start.
