Elijah wasn't a lot of things. For instance, he wasn't one for animals, aside from his own owl. Yt he was here, in this class just as wretched as the others, with students he both loathed and pitied and two of the most brainless morons he'd ever have the displeasure of meeting.
He'd met them around before. He was fairly sure the Gryffindor was in a class or two with him, and the Slytherin he'd heard people mutter about. Nathan and Antony, he was fairly sure their names were. Or maybe the first boy's name was Benedict. He'd been referred to as both.
So when they'd gone at it with each other, he'd done the sensible thing and let them take care of it themselves, and sat back and watched as they beat each others brains out. Or rather, Nathan beat Antony's brains out while the Slytherin waited for the right chance to strike back. And strike back he had, with a hit that looked a lot less lethal than it had been, and the Gryffindor bad been sent back hard.
The sensible thing to do would have been let them be. But no, some Hufflepuff he'd never seen before had leapt in, screaming bloody murder and trying to separate the two himself. It had been fruitless, of course, and she was overreacting horribly.
"They're not hurting you, leave them alone," he growled, leaning to help Rhye with Nathan. "Stop being such a drama queen." Turning his attention to the other Ravenclaw, he grimaced again. "He'll probably be fine. Take them both, just to make sure."
Such a wonderful day this was turning out to be.

The reaction from the Ravenclaw was, of course, expected. Antony remembered, with the icy aloofness of someone remembering their mother-in-law was coming for a visit, the way they acted around each other - close enough to interpret a friendship, and comfortable enough to criticize, and while they perhaps weren't the best of friends the defensiveness was to be expected.
He hadn't expected the interjection from the Hufflepuff girl, though.
He had seen her around, of course, and knew her for an older student, if only for the presumptuous and pretentious manner in which she carried herself, a manner that made even Antony raise an eyebrow. Of course he didn't acknowledge the irony, but at least he didn't try to act like everyone's "friendly mother."
Still feeling slightly shaky, Antony breathed in sharply, bringing his hands up to his nose with a small hiss of pain. The blood was slowing, but it was mixing with the dirt, and he wanted to leave and clean himself up. "I'm all right," he told the Slytherin girl, Astoria Greengrass, inclining his head to her in a silent gesture of thanks. He had not been counting on any support whatsoever. "It seems I won't be in a few seconds, though. They'll praise their Gryffindor hero, who vanquished the evil Slytherins in a fair and just battle." His mouth twisted into a small sneer. "But then again, you already know that."

Cassidy stood waiting for the professor to talk but then it kicked off one boy punched another knocking him down to the ground her arms slowly moved around her waist as she moved back slowly from them as she felt the coldness slowly creep through her body at the sight in front of her as her mind blanked out seeing nothing but the blood in front of her and hearing the sounds of the hits brought back the sound she had heard that day her parents had died and she tried to block the sound covering her ears and stepping back from it her eyes closed and her body shaking.
Feeling the roughness of the tree bark against her back as she tried to make herself small as she was that night hiding inside her self. Cassidy tried to control here breathing feeling her chest hurt as she took each breath. "Stop it, stop it !!" she kept saying over and over. She never noticed that they had stopped fighting as she was now locked in her memories. Standing she looked at them all her anger over taking her fear " ENOUGH!!" She shouted and ran back towards the school or so she hoped she'd never been in the forest before and after a short time she found her self sitting down on a fallen tree and looked back down the path she had taken.

Hannah hated the way the other students looked at her. She was starting to regret taking this course, this was a madhouse. There had to be other classes to take that weren’t so well dramatic. She had made up her mind and was set on it.
She loved the animals but she felt well, unwelcome in the class and she couldn't be in a class like that, she was already in Magizoology.
“Professor Rayner, may I please leave class?” she asked trying to sound calm and collective.

He'd never been one to try and gain the spotlight with anyone but his friends. Though that was exactly what he seemed to have done, through the little fight he'd had with Antony. Benedict tried to gasp in a breath, to tell Rhye no I don't need a Healer; I'm perfectly fine but he couldn't seem to get a hold of himself.
Antony's eyes bored through him like lasers from those Muggle science fiction movies, and Benedict purposefully tried to avoid his gaze. He couldn't know; could he? It had been an impossibly lucky shot. Though as much as he disliked the Slytherin, he doubted he was capable of such downright cruelty as to take measures like that.
He was thankful that someone was at least trying to tend to Antony, he'd roughed him up pretty bad. Finally catching his breath and trying to ignore the pain in his heart--physically, not metaphorically--he gripped Rhye's shoulder tight as to not lose his balance and fall over, and attempted to stand on his own.
"I'm fine," he growled, though it came out more as a wheeze, and took a step forward. This proved to be a bad idea, and he fell against his friend's shoulder once more as the world spun around him from exhaustion. Not wanting to make any more of a scene than he'd already caused, he willed himself still until Rhye could take him to the Healer, as he knew his friend would despite his noncompliance. It would probably be best if he left anyways, if only for the rest of the day. No, he wouldn't give Antony the benefit of thnking he'd won and chased him from the class. Such actions weren't in his nature.

Such an imbecilic class this was.
With a glare of disdain at the other Ravenclaw who was on the verge of running off, Elijah pursed his lips and frowned at her. The Hufflepuff was free of his contempt now; this girl was just being plain stupid. No one should ever have been as set off by a small fight as she was.
When she finally did bolt, he didn't try to supress a snort of laughter. "Good riddance," he muttered as he watched her go, turning to the Hufflepuff as she asked to leave. At least she'd asked to leave rather than just run off in a dramatic huff. Perhaps he'd done that; making her want to leave with his comment? He allowed himself a twinge of guilt at that.
Turning to Rhye, he nodded at Nathan. "Take him to the Healer," he told him, "Before he kills himself from sheer stupidity."

Astoria gave a nod to Antony, letting him stay on the ground for a bit to rest before helping him to his feet. She leaned him against a nearby tree and trusted that he could manage himself now. The reaction from the first Ravenclaw boy was easy to brush off. He was worried for the one he was closest to, the reaction was only natural. It was the second one that drew her attention after he sniped at the Hufflepuff and sent her away. While there was no one in the class that she bore close relation to, the boy's tone more than annoyed her.
She turned to Elijah. Astoria looked him over, up and down before settling on looking right into his eyes. He wasn't a bad looking lad. He might have been alright if he hadn't been such bastard. "It's a pity that you don't kill yourself out of the pure strain of being you. I can't imagine what it must be like, having to walk around such stupid people every day. I mean really, what if one of them touched you? The very idea of it is enough to make you suicidal!" Astoria shook her head. "But you don't want pity, do you?"
Taking a step toward him, she smiled. "To think that the Sorting Hat almost put me in your House! I'm sure that you can't imagine it anymore than I can now. Oh, but I forgot that your intelligence is far greater than ours as mere mortals. You don't have to imagine, you know! That's quite extraordinary."
"But tell me, Leeson," said Astoria nicely, "do you use your incredibly large brain to compensate for something else? That would be sensible, after all."

While Isolde ha been tumbling headfirst down a hill, apparently some sort of dissagreement had begun. She thanked the professor for helping her up and said that, "Yes, I'm quite alright, I do things liks this all of the time." sweetly before walking over to where the rest of the group of girls stood around the unicorn. The creatures were quite beautiful and it took a bit of shouting for her attentions to be diverted.
At the noise the Slytherin and Gryffindor were making, she turned, wondering what was going on that was so eventful. It seemed that a fight was beginning and soon enough the boys were rolling on the floor. Isolde was vouching for Benedict, she'd spoke to him before and he seemed a nice, interesting lad. Anthony, while interesting, was a mature sort of insulent and she felt nothing but a sort of tiny dislike in the back of her mind (Isolde found it hard to hate anybody in particular).
Ah well, what happened between boys was nothing to do with her. Then, Benedict was gasping and Rhye holding him upright. Things had all happened rather fast and she felt a great twinge of worry for the hotheaded but kind Gryffindor. She sent a concerned look his way before looking over at Anthony, feeling a bit of anger at him.

The professor listened as Hannah Abbot and Cassidy Mitchell both answered his question correctly- points were awarded, he praised them, and then he had moved on to the boys. He had been pleased when Rhye had answered his question correctly, awarding the promised points and giving him a nice clap on the back, which would be more meaningful then the others would think. The other two boys, Antony and Benedict were speaking softly to each other and Rayner narrowed his eyes, as he couldn't actually hear what was being said. Though it didn't take a Head Auror to figure out what it was about.
In all his years of teaching, Caspian Rayner had never had a fight in one of his classes. Ever. And so when the two boys, who had already been warned, began fighting, his anger grew to such extreme levels. He stood stock still and let the boys fight. He had already told them they were not children. If they wanted to be fools, and fight like savages, then let them. There punishment- whatever the outcome was. Sure, the professor would not let them kill each other. But based on how the boys seemed to be fighting, this would be their last fight for quite some time. Some of the other students glanced up at him, and with a stiff jaw, he shook his head. "If they want to roll around in the dirt, let them. They had their warning. I am not their parents, and I wont be there to stop every fight they have. They're going to have to make their own mistakes. They won't have a referee their whole life." He turned back to the fighting boys, his jaw tight and his head shaking.
Finally one of the boys paused to take a breath and Rayner saw the other boy take the chance to get in a hit. It appeared to be the final blow. The Gryffindor rolled off of the boy, clutching at his chest, and Rayner pushed Rhye over to the boy as he himself headed for the other boy, hoisting him up and brushing him off. He had straightened himself up and opened his mouth to speak when the Hufflepuff cut him off. He raised a very sardonic eyebrow as the girl demanded that the boys separate so class could begin. He cleared his throat.
"I do believe that this class is headed by Professor Caspian Rayner, not Hannah Abbot. Separating solved nothing, and this is my class. I do not cater to any of you, you do as I, the professor, says. I will not have you separate in my class. You two will learn to behave in my presence. If you have an issue, you deal with it. Words or fists, I don't care. But do not take up my class time to do it. Before, or after class. If you want to fight so bad, I can arrange a time. But I'll be damned if any of you waste my class time for this." The professor glanced between the boys- he would have to take points. "Ten points from Slytherin and Gryffindor, and an extra five points from Gryffindor for beginning the fight." Professor Rayner, despite being a former Gryffindor, had no regrets and didn't feel bad in the least for taking the extra five points. They were points that deserved to be taken.
The professor was letting the two cool down as he slowly approached the now very agitated Unicorns. He had already told the class that they were very temperamental beings, and then this happened. He shook his head. He was relocating them when he heard Rhye Alexendre call out that Benedict had been injured. He turned his head back to the group and saw Rhye supporting Benedict. His eyebrows narrowed and he jogged over to the boys, getting on a knee in front of the Gryffindor. Rhye snapped at the Slytherin and Rayner looked back to see people near Antony. He turned back at Rhye and shook his head.
"Let it be. We've been over this." He said, but then the Ravenclaw spoke up and Rayner turned his head to the boy in exasperation. "You stop too. If none of you can speak with kind words, then keep your trap shut tight!" He only barely suppressed a growl. And if that wasn't enough, the fourth year who looked traumatized by a mere fight, yelled to everyone that enough had been enough. He stood up, ready to berate her for not listening to the words he had just spoken, but she turned and ran. The professor rolled his eyes. Well something must be wrong with her- more so then she let on. He needed to deal with the current situation at hand first. The boys. He knelt back down to the boy and opened his mouth to speak when, again, he was cut off. This time by the Hufflepuff. After giving her permission to leave, he added, "Go check on Miss Mitchell and take her with you." He instructed with a nod in the girls direction.
As the injured student stood up to prove that he didn't need a Healer, the other Ravenclaw, Elijah, inserted what he thought, and then some- Rayner's anger only grew. He turned to the boy, "Five points from Ravenclaw. Speak again and it will be five more." He said lowly. He turned to Benedict and looked him over, casting small diagnosis spells he knew while the Slytherin princess opened her mouth. At her words, he froze. He could not believe the audacity the girl had. He stood up and spun around to face her.
"Did you seriously just say that?" Rayner chuckled in disbelief, no humor in his voice. "Surely I misheard, because it sounded like you just told another kid he ought to commit suicide. Do you even think before you speak? Ten points from Slytherin and detention with Filtch for a week. I would have thought as a Slytherin you would have been smarter then to say something like that- especially where a professor could hear you. As for the two of you, detention with me, together, for a week. Bruised, broken, and all." He turned back to the Benedict. "To the Hospital Wing." He instructed, giving a nod at Rhye to take him. The professor then turned back to the class.
"Now, we still have class time, but congratulations, you have all pissed me off beyond repair and quite frankly I don't feel like trying to teach you. I couldn't care less if you fail our quiz over Unicorns. I will see you all next week. Hopefully by then most of you will be gifted with common sense- though that is doubtful. Now everyone out. Cause trouble elsewhere- but don't do it here." The very angry professor sent all the students away and went to clean up after the class. All the students had grabbed there stuff from the gazebo and Professor Rayner sat down beside Rhye and Benedict's stuff, which obviously had been left. He sighed and rested his elbows onto his knees and his head in his hands. The headache was already setting in.

Antony had seen teachers act unprofessionally, but this made him want to raise an eyebrow so much so that it actually took a fair bit of effort to keep his face black, eyes like charcoal slits as he wiped more blood from his face. Far be it from anyone to look dignified with blood and dirt on their face, but Antony would try his hardest. Not reacting unless he had to was a start, but his robes were also infused with grime now, and he flinched at the mere thought of them against his skin.
The professor was, of course, livid beyond all reason. It was understandable; his first class and two students had gotten into a fight. Doubtless there would be many who would speculate on his inability to run a class properly, something that would only be supported by his dismissal of them all when he should have kept teaching, showing the other students that he could still keep a class together despite such an interruption. But he didn't. Antony, however, wasn't truly complaining.
Hiding a wince, he glanced at the other students, allowing a small sneer to appear as he watched the Ravenclaw girl scream and run away - Cassidy Mitchell, a girl whose lack of brains and wit should have stopped her from being sorted into any of the houses, let alone Ravenclaw. She was a discredit to such a house, Antony thought, and he didn't mourn her leaving. She would have only been a hindrance.
A new voice caught his attention - the Ravenclaw boy, the one with the tongue sharp and venomous enough to make one dark eyebrow climb Antony's face in an effort to reach his hairline. He hadn't noticed him before, his vision obscured by filth both physical and metaphorical, and his eyes narrowed as he tried to place him, perhaps staring longer than he had meant to. The boy had more guts than he was used to Ravenclaw's having, and he tilted his head lightly to the side as he considered it. Of course Astoria's next comment was enough to put even Antony on edge, and he had gritted his teeth and tried to make a subtle hissing noise under his breath, but the teacher had only turned his rage on her and they had lost more house points as a result. Sneaking a small, puzzled glance at the Ravenclaw boy, Elijah, Antony allowed himself an irritated sigh.
"Astoria," he murmured lowly, giving a small shake of his head. "Such... benign comments are beneath you." He had chosen 'benign' carefully, knowing it was the exact opposite of what she had said, but he didn't want to upset her or incur her wrath upon himself, especially considering her connections. A dark smile flickered across his mouth. "I'm sure his brain is perfectly capable of hurling insults back at you, too. He hasn't harmed anyone; pick a different battle." Like the idiot Ravenclaw girl or the bossy, pretentious Hufflepuff, his mind filled in.
What a story they would have to tell the common room tonight.

Astoria listened as the professor reprimanded them all one by one until he finally got to her. She didn't narrow her eyes or sneer or anything like that. She only said, "Yes, sir. I apologize." Underneath, she'd drained herself slowly of everything until she felt nothing at all. It helped with situations like this. The detention, she could endure. The losing of points was not to be tolerated by herself. She would have to plan out a way to gain them back, possibly double the amount. It might require more studying, but she would do that anyway to make sure that she was prepared for the quiz and whatever the other classes decided to throw at her. Later, she would make sure to make amends to Professor Rayner. She wouldn't be a liability. Not to herself, and most certainly not to her House.
When Antony spoke up to chide her, she only smiled on the inside without giving him a real one. It was a bit remarkable that people thought of her so differently. Some only saw her as arrogant. Some only saw her as Draco Malfoy's girlfriend. Most probably didn't notice her at all. She could live with all of those. As long as one person saw who she truly was, it didn't matter. The rest would never be allowed through the walls. Antony's comment about Elijah being capable of hurling insults back at her was the most laughable of all, even though it was true. She knew that she had been harsh but she was used to going head to head with Draco, in which case there was hardly any mercy from either. No. Astoria had grown up with insults her whole life from her own mother or sister's best friends. There was nothing he could say to her. So she told Antony, "Yes, you're right."
Picking up her bag and placing it on her shoulder, Astoria turned and filed out with the rest of the class.

The best thing for Rhye was having Professor Rayner's approval. So when he gave him a pat on the back, Rhye knew he had done well. With a bright smile, he returned to what he was doing.
Yeah, that's it. On the issue of the two boys, Rhye wrapped his arm tight around Benedict as he straightened himself out and willed himself to move with him while he took a wobbly step forwards. His eyes shifted slowly to the group around him, all the students, two leaving the class because they couldn't handle it. Rhye snorted inwardly. The gutless Hufflepuff who tried to direct orders and the Ravenclaw who broke down and ran away screaming. He felt ashamed for his house. Ravenclaws were strong in the face of disgruntlement, they were not cowards and lunatics.
As Rayner began assigning detention and taking house points, Rhye's eyes shot up to Leeson who had cost his house five points. Rhye scowled and shook his head. He shouldn't have opened his mouth- but Rhye knew Elijah- that was beyond his capabilities. Rayner then was at Rhye's side and looking over Benedict. As he nodded about the Hospital Wing, Rhye straightened himself out and pulled Benedict closer up on his shoulder, adjusting so. He smiled to his friend softly, knowing he wasn't one to admit to being in pain.
"I know, I know, you're a Gryffindor," he laughed, "but your body is more important than your pride- let's go." Rhye nodded and began their slow descent up the hill, making sure Benedict was careful under his support, looking over his shoulder once they made it to observe what was now happening. Rhye noticed that Professor Rayner had moved to sit down by Rhye and Benedict's stuff, his head in his hands. All the other students began filing out up the hill behind him. Rhye growled, turning back and heading towards the Hospital Wing. "Oh, he's pissed." He laughed humorlessly. "Now let's go, we need to get you fixed up."

Hannah couldn’t believe this professor. She gets that he is frustrated but giving points for fighting honestly. She knew she wouldn’t be coming back for the next class so she didn’t care what happened to her so she spoke up.
“Don’t expect me back,” she said turning away and leaving the class.
She definitely had better days. She just had to get through the day and then she could sleep this nightmare away that is if she ever makes it through the day. She just sighed as she left, maybe coming back wasn’t such a good idea after all.

Elijah snorted at Astoria as she tried to pick her battle with him, but let Antony tune her in for him. Seriously, of all the topics she could have used against him, she chose the topic of suicide? Of all the low, unworthy, crude things she could have hurled at him...
He curled his lip at her. That, as well as the other aspects of her arguments she was using against him were juvenile and uneducated, something Slytherins weren't usually known for.
"I'm surprised it put you in the house it did," he retorted to her. "If you're going to go by house prejudice, I don't know what quite to think of you. I'm glad the hat didn't sort you into our house; you'd be more a burden than anything." He gave her a look of disdain. "Seriously, suicide? That's what you choose to jibe me with? I thought Slytherins were better than that. And much more discreet than such juvenile insults such as yours.
"Antony's right; you are above this. I didn't pick my quarrel with you." Straightening his clothes and turning to Hannah, he flicked the hair out of his eyes. "In case she believed I was attacking you, I wasn't. I mean you no disrespect, and I apologize if you thought I did."

The fight had begun and Ophelia Retchford had stood quietly while the two boys fought. They rolled around in the dirt, Benedict on the offense, and Ophelia had circled her way around to the other students. Her eyes never left the boys who were tangled up together- not when the Hufflepuff had a hissy fit, and not when the Ravenclaw female bolted from the class. Finally the fight seemed to end with a blow to Benedict's chest. She let out a gasp and took a step toward him, but Rhye seemed to get to the boy first, thank God. Luckily Rhye understood the importance of the situation. And then the Slytherin was speaking and she heard Rhye snap back. She hoped Astoria would stop before he really got angry. He had already told her numerous times about the incident in Muggle Studies. She smiled at him, proud that he was sticking up for his friend.
The sixth year Ravenclaw, Elijah, muttered his farewell to the girl and Ophelia chuckled, glancing over at him. Her face turned to a frown when he made the stupidity comment, but she held her tongue, not wanting to start anything with someone. But then the unthinkable, the unbelievable happened. Astoria, the Slytherin, made her comment about Elijah committing suicide and something she didn't know she had in her snapped. She gasped and stepped between the Ravenclaw and the Slytherin.
"You did not just say that! I am appalled. It's people like you who push human beings to suicide! Not that you care- I imagine you prefer casting the spell yourself, don't you? I'm sure you get a thrill- a high from seeing the life slip from someones eyes. Tell me Greengrass, if someone were to say that to your precious boyfriend, would be okay with that? Or would you snap and let all Hell break loose?" Ophelia was so angry and so worked up she could hardly see straight. Suicide was not a laughing matter, and it wasn't something you just play with. Once someone was dead, there was no going back from that. She understood that first hand. After her Death Eater older brother killed her parents over the summer, she had shifted into a new person, and death was not something to laugh at, or be thrown around. Ophelia refused to let this future Death Eater treat the rest of them like dirt. "It's people like you who cause the downfall of societies. People like you who think Muggle's and Muggle Borns are savages- you should take a glance in the mirror- that is, if you can see yourself through that cloud of self righteousness that blocks you from the real world. Ophelia grabbed her bag while Elijah spoke his peace and as she passed him she grabbed his hand, dragging him behind her.
"We're leaving." Ophelia spoke angrily.
